Title: With the 11th pick Post by: NetsGM on March 24, 2005, 10:14:35 PM The Grizzlies select:
Jamal Del Negro, SF, Stanford Title: With the 11th pick Post by: SonicsGM on March 24, 2005, 10:17:41 PM Here is a steal if that potential can maintain throughout his first few years.
Any other year, this guy goes top 5. But with all the centers and PGs in this draft, JDN drops like a rock. Title: With the 11th pick Post by: CavsGM on March 24, 2005, 10:20:07 PM Any other year he goes top five? As is, his ratings are average at best, if that. Potential should not be relied upon so heavily.
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: HornetsGM on March 24, 2005, 11:07:37 PM he should have gone much higher; Cavs, you are being ridiculous.
Let's see who ends up being the better player, Terpening or Del Negro. Title: With the 11th pick Post by: BullsGM-old on March 25, 2005, 12:19:24 AM Del Negro should have went top 8, good pickup for the Grizz
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: SonicsGM on March 25, 2005, 01:59:42 AM Yeah, any other year. This year's class was unbelievably good. Especially at PG and Center.
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 08:13:37 AM I somewhat agree with teh Cavs. If Del Negro had C potential, he would have falling to high 20s.
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 09:12:54 AM Yeah, but on a player that already has skills, potential can't be disregarded. It's not unreasonable to think Jamal will be a B, B+ offensive player with B or B+ defense when things are over. That's damned good.

Title: With the 11th pick Post by: GoldenStateGM on March 25, 2005, 10:01:14 AM Agreed. Even if he does not improve much at all, B's across the board is nothing to sneeze at... BTW
Name Pos Height Weight Age In Out Hn Df Reb Pot Lorenzo Ellis PG 6'1'' 187 22 B- B- B B C B Del Negro SF 6'7'' 254 20 B- B- D+ B- C- A Ellis was pretty much a consensus top 5 pick. Del Negro, while not as good, is not too far off. And he has that A potential. And do not discount that he is 6'7", 254 lbs, and only 20. Built like a rock (or chubby, who knows) and a sophmore... Title: With the 11th pick Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 10:02:09 AM Yeha, he could be the second coming of Rodney Rogers.
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: CavsGM on March 25, 2005, 10:17:57 AM I still think that this is around where he should have been taken. Unless his ratings improve a tremendous amount in training camp.

Well, I think we know who is not a fan of potential for future drafts and trades  Title: With the 11th pick Post by: CavsGM on March 25, 2005, 10:33:48 AM I'm a fan of potential. I just don't think that he should have been taken any higher than this, contrary to what mostly everyone else thinks. I still like players with potential.

I know I rate potential higer then most people here... But I also have never seen a training camp either... Title: With the 11th pick Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 11:07:16 AM Potential is important, but it's good to remember that all potential is just scouted too...
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 11:08:42 AM And wow, without even realizing it, I'm over 1000 posts
Title: With the 11th pick Post by: NetsGM on March 25, 2005, 11:13:06 AM and I thought I was sad.

True... But what else do you have to go on??? Title: With the 11th pick Post by: BullsGM-old on March 25, 2005, 12:06:27 PM Quote from: RaptorsGM And wow, without even realizing it, I'm over 1000 posts  You have a higher post per day average on this site than I do on realgm (12ppd)... How does that work? Title: With the 11th pick Post by: HornetsGM on March 25, 2005, 12:09:41 PM Scouted potential can cut both ways. What if Terpening is a D potential and Del Negro is really an A potential? It's shortsighted to point out only one side of potential.
Although drafting based on potential is a risk, it's a risk worth taking if a guy is already pretty talented. The difference might be getting a potential superstar vs. getting a slowly declining role player. How does that work? I'm here alot - that's how it works. And now that RealGM sucks, there is no where else to post. You don't get an all-star team by just checking PM's once a week. So you're sayin the secret to your success is posting 13 PPD? I dunno, on the Raptors board over at realgm, theres activity 24/7 and I still don't get 13 ppd. I dunno, I guess it's a talent only the Raptors GM has  Title: With the 11th pick Post by: RaptorsGM on March 25, 2005, 12:44:09 PM It's not a talent - it's kinda sad :)
I have an opinion on everything - and I'm not afraid to say it. |
