Title: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: HawksGM on May 25, 2007, 02:14:38 PM 1. Hornets - Ralph Sampson
2. Clippers - Brendan LaFrentz 3. Hornets - Clyde Drexler 4. Sonics - Steve Stipanovich 5. Knicks - Ennis Whatley Picks 6-10 Sunday, a busy day for me tomorrow and I won't be able to run it tomorrow Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: HornetsGM on May 25, 2007, 02:43:33 PM Well Sampson was an easy choice at #1, and thank God I got the #1 pick, because the rest of the draft is really lackluster (as I've previously griped about). I was hoping that LaFrentz would fall to #3, but no such luck.
Drexler is a good consolation prize, considering his potential (which I checked, along with 4 others.) I would expect him to get 14pts/35 minutes considering his rookie stats, but he looks a bit underrated at this point -- hopefully it wasn't an error in entering data (i.e., not noticing that he played only 17 mpg instead of 35). There was another guy I almost picked in front of Drexler who is still on the board who could end up being better than him. I don't think either of them will end up being stars though. Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: MavsGM on May 25, 2007, 02:57:05 PM Unless Drexler improves his outside shooting. He won't get you 14pts because he FT % will be around .500
Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: HornetsGM on May 25, 2007, 03:07:11 PM Well incoming draftees are supposed to match their rookie outputs. Maybe his height advantage, etc was taken into account.
Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: CelticsGM on May 25, 2007, 03:12:04 PM man, I would have given Drexler a try witout hesitating.
if he develops anywhere close to the original ... watch out ! :-) and about the rookie output: You need to be an expert at draft creation to get these right. I still can't, and I have now created 5 retro drafts. Or you create the rookies, try simming a season ahead and watch the output (which of course takes the fun from playing myself AND doesn't produce correct results, since there are so many side effects having an impact on the stats like team, teammates, game settings, and so on.) Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: NetsGM on May 25, 2007, 03:13:40 PM They're not necessarily supposed to match their rookie outputs. Their rookie ratings are based on their rookie stats, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily going to match their stats.
I'm not sure how Hawks is going to do it, but I also did modify some ratings. If you don't, all guards can't shoot a lick, even Larry Bird). I also stated from day 1 that the players aren't going to be replicas of their past counterparts, but that they would have similar gameplay strengths and physical attributes. He won't get you 14pts because he FT % will be around .500 There are two ratings that determine outside shooting. Basically, it's midrange and 3 pt. You can have terrible 3 pt, great midrange, and end up with a mediocre outside, which would give you a good ft% (which is dependent on midrange). Title: Re: Picks 1-5 of the 2020 SSBA Draft Post by: ClippersGM-old on May 26, 2007, 11:27:16 AM Very happy with LaFrentz. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the rebuilding process. Still understand what I am trying to say? :)
