Title: Celtics-Nets
Post by: NetsGM on April 25, 2007, 10:07:31 AM
The New Jersey Nets trade:
Antonio Lenard
Ian Magloire
Terry Teagle

to the Boston Celtics for:
Dylan Pettit
Rick Robey
Nick English
Celtics 2022 first
200 GM dollars

**Works in the checker, no restrictions on any of the players involved, picks work.

Nets accept.

Long story to this one. While Lenard was useful for me, I began to realize that he'd have a limited role and was burning my cap flexibility - so I wanted to get out from under his deal in the least intrusive way possible reclaiming some of what I gave up (hence the first and cash). Hard to give up Mags, but Macy is giving me plenty at the one, and this gets me the serviceable backup big I've been looking for in Pettit. Plus, it clears a whack of cap space for the off-season when I intend to rape the Kings of their best young talent . English should give me what Mags was giving me this year in a backup role, and makes it a little easier for me to try to work in the Microwave some (to see what I have there).

This is a tough one to do. Not only is Robey capeable of playing way above his ratings, Pettit can be really good someday and he was my best young big man project
but
Lenard can give me what i have been lacking for a few seasons, and that is put up points with any consistency. He won't defend much above average, but as Michael Redd did show us here, that can still be something working. And Mags of course will finally give me a young PG, as my ancient core of Perry/English is declining rapidly.

I take on 20 million of guaranteed money for next season, so i may need to make a few extra moves before seasons end, but i hope this will work out well for me as long as my veterans have anything left in the tank !

what a bad trade for the nets. All the get is a mid to late first and guys no one would play except the celtics: And even he let his youngster only 28 min the whole season.
lenard can be a 20+ scorer and is outplaying his opp with great consistency if used right.
ian is an improvement over everything the celtics call a pg and even teagle is better than most of their youngster.
big time win for the celtics if they use them right.

Giving up Magloire was the hardest part, but...
I think it is OK for both teams.
The pick is not for a while, but it will give the Nets a pick in the future to look forward to.

Dylan Pettit might be a good prospect, if his potential holds true.  He could develop into a nice starting center.
And getting id of Lenard's contract gives the Nets alot of cap flexibility...

And this trade gives the Celtics a final gasp.  With the team aging rapidly, he will bring a scoring punch to a team that needs it for a final championship run.

Just saw this now. Talent wise, with Mags and Lenard, the Celts win - sure. But I don't think you'll convince me that Teagle will ever be more than a cap clogger.

I did this trade for one primary reason: with Lenard we were plugging around at 500 - and with him not playing well enough to start for me, he was a waste of cap space that was crippling my flexibility. I landed a younger player in another deal who helps me more at the three and Macy is emerging- so I had less use now Mags/Lenard than I did, and my team was still shy of being a solid long-term contender without a star player. I had to decide on a way to get one - and FA looked like my best, most feasible bet, to get one without giving up the farm.

If I can end up scoring a stud via free agency, this will be a huge score - and there's a few out there.....in Sacramento.
