Title: Sim 1 Up
Post by: CelticsGM on November 20, 2006, 04:38:24 AM
People here in Beantown are pretty excited about the new season kicking off in a few hours.

Marion, my undisputed leader the past 3 seasons is gone (with Dirk and Kwame possibly following soon) and some new faces came in, led by former #1 pick John Tyler and former #1 pick (round 2) Darius Perry. Expectations here are a lot less compared to past seasons since this is most likely a transition season for the Celtics, going younger ... but not "rookie-type" younger, i'm over with these experiments.

One thing is clear, this team will be HUGE early on, since my starters and backups look like this:
C  6'11" / 6'11"
PF 6'9" / 6'11"
SF 6'10" / 6'11"
SG 7'0" / 6'8"
PG 6'0" / 6'0"
Will have to be seen if these guys can defend the quicker and better passing teams.

Season goal: finding a rotation, especially a SG starter, and making the playoffs.

I probably have one of the tallest starting lineup with 6'5 being the shortest.

can't wait for this sim. I'll be having Chase come off the bench this time to maintain the bench scoring with Biedrins being an option for my team for like the 3rd time in his Magic career. the new look Magic never got to play healthily next year. And Dwight and Darko will now be starting the season playing together. I'm looking at at least a total of 6bpg average from the 3D of Darko, Dwight and Dickerson.

Gaylor will also be playing some role and will slowly be injected into the lineup.

man you bench your only true SG ..and your best PG ever trump ..lol
this lineup will have troubles not only to score but also to defend the quicker guards and forwards.

That's exactly my worries, being too slow on defense. Hope the scoring will come shared from all angles, with nobody getting 30pt games but lot's of 15-20pt games.

Now that I have Perry I should at least try him play starter for once. I know what Trump can do for me, i don'T know what Perry can.

And for the only true SG. I have no "classic" SG, but I have lots of guys who should be able to survive there. BDiddy, Przybilla, Tower, Perry, Vinnie. Expect a lot of rotation until I have found my preferred lineup ...

Nuggets are once again hoping to see improvement from the youth. We dont have playoff aspirations yet this season, as I dont think I have the overall talent. However with such a young core I can only see us getting better every year, hoping that my plan comes to fruition next year as we make the playoffs then.

I would really like to see both Ransey and Gminski challenge for ROY this year and see my team inch closer to .450 ball as a realistic goal.

The Raptors find themselves at a bit of a crossroads. One season removed from a Championship, and a clear contender last year...but a rather terrible TC has us thinking that this may be the time to rebuild with approx 60 mil coming off the cap after this season including three starters.

The Spurs are poised for another deep run into the playoffs with a nice mix of youth and vets.  Returning our top six from last year's conference finals team with some nice development in younger prospects is raising fan expectations.

But at the same time management realizes that this team is a piece away from the rings.  Behind the scenes discussions have been initiated to see if that missing piece can be found.  Or to add some futre flexibilty with the cap and draft.

Well, the Warriors are looking prettty through TC.
Really just hoping for a maybe a 7th or 8th spot for the playoffs.
The youngsters did pretty well in TC, and it should be quite inteersting to see how they do.

With 2 A defenders at the swing positions, the perimeter defense should be pretty good this year.

Better?
 :lmao:

At Shultz' age LAST season Marion averaged 28ppg, 9rpg, 3apg, 2spg on 47% fg, 81% ft and 44% from 3pt. And he went to the line 600+ times (Shultz: 20.8ppg, 6.6rpg, 2.8apg, 2.4spg, 46% fg, 68% ft, 37% 3pt, 400+ FTA)

At Shultz' age THIS season Marion upped his averages to 32.4ppg, 9.7rpg and 48% shooting.

All this with terrific A+ defense.

Shultz is not even CLOSE yet, waaaaaaaay to go, man.

8 of my first 9 games are on the road.  Not a good combination for a young team who hasn't really played together yet.  I'm hoping to pull out 4 wins, but I expect 2 or 3, just not a good situation for the young guys.

Mavs have the same starting five back from last year and pretty much the same team.

Sim 1 up.

Post by: WizardsGM on November 20, 2006, 01:45:48 PM
4-5, not bad, not good. Scoring a lot more than last season (up 13ppg) but also giving up more.

Excellent job by 1st overall pick Kelvin Ransey, avg 19pts 9.8ast as a non-option and shooting almost 53% from 3
5th overall Mike Gminski was steady with 16/7.7

Zack Profit down to 16ppg but likely because he actually has help now, as we have all 5 starters scoring 14.4ppg or more

Title: Re: Sim 1 Up
Post by: BlazersGM on November 20, 2006, 01:49:04 PM
5-1....good to see team played well at home, all games were in Portland
with only loss coming from Rockets by 2pts which spoiled our dream
start but 5-1 is great.

Hoffa played really great as non-option, Booz is sick, Phelps had great
all around sim 18.5ppg 6.8rpg 4.5apg 1.0spg but needs some improvement
on FG and same goes for Clement, i'll never get it how a 6'3'' guy can
average 7rpg.

Terrible start of the season for young Magic Johnson. 5tpg, 39% from the floor, 15% from the 3. Lack of true sidekicks is really hurting his game.

Title: Re: Sim 1 Up
Post by: GrizzliesGM on November 20, 2006, 02:16:07 PM
Great start for the Grizzlies going 6-1 though it was an easy schedule.
Maggette is playing his best ball yet. If Kirilenko can continue to score 20 a game as the third option I will be a very happy gm. After changing Kundla's and Sander's positions, Sanders improved his defense at sf and Kundla stayed the same so I am switching Kundla to SG and Sanders to Sf. Lincoln Lord is also playing great at pg getting 18 ppg and 11 apg with only 2 tpg.

I just hope we can play as well against better competition.

Went 6-2 but we are giving up 100 a game and that's not good.

Post by: JazzGM-old on November 20, 2006, 02:35:41 PM
Terrible start for Vandeweghe, but I think with my past with good shooters (Meyers, Drew, etc) that his %'s will improve with another sim or two. Toney has been a great surprise, and my team is for once not turning the ball over and shooting great percentages as a team so that'll give you ac hance to win every game. 5-2 isn't bad, but too early to tell anything more.

Yuck with a capital holyfuck.

4-5 start for the Raptors. Pace is going to have to increase so we can actually put some points on the board.

Bods,

Did Eddie Crawford get hurt?  He was supposed to be my starting PG, and he played all of two minutes this sim.

When it comes to Shultz, guess I have to correct myself.

While I don't see him better than the Matrix, he sure is darn close. Didn't expect such a breakout performance over this first sim. He's the real deal, it seems ...

I set it to CPU Rec every year on Sim 1 and this one produced a 6-2 first sim.

As I expected, the team is 1-3 and guard heavy with Arenas, Gordon, Anthony and Ward.  One thing I have to correct with the depth chart is Mehta only playing 29 mpg and never in foul trouble during Sim 1.  Of course, he still averaged a customary 17/10/3 with 4 blocks per game.

I made some tweaks to the depth chart to make sure my 4 best players are on the court as much as possible from here on out.

Title: Re: Sim 1 Up
Post by: CelticsGM on November 20, 2006, 05:06:47 PM
Hahaha, sim 1 went just about as expected.

Started off with some road wins (including a very nice one over the Cavs), being 4-1 at one point, only to see my team collapsing towards the end of the sim. Ended up 4-4 and I guess it's safe to say Dirk isn't the answer at SG
;-)

Perry was a solid starting PG this sim, getting 14/4/6 on great percentages and added 2.6 steals. Only 1.3 giveaways. But the new cornerstone of this franchise has to be John Tyler. 19ppg, 10rpg, 4apg, 2.4 steals, 1.6 blocks at 49% shooting, while playing great defense at SF. Now let's see what he has left at the more demanding PF spot.

Rotation will continue to be the name of the game in Boston ...

Warriors went 5-4, going 3-1 at home, and 2-3 on the road.

Luol Deng looks mighty impressive, with 24 ppg and almost 9 rpg.
Cliff Robinson rebounds very well for a 19 year old, 10.4 rpg in 30 mpg.
Michael O'Neal putting in his usual 12 ppg on 51% shooting (which is unusual)
Don Collins is playing very well as a back-up swingman, putting up 12 ppg in 24 mpg on great percentages.
And Larry Drew is a keeper at the point.  15 ppg, 7.4 apg, 2.0 spg, and 2.0 topg.

Also held opponents to 43% shooting, and only 28% from 3 pt land.

next sim will say if these young guys are for real.

3-3.. decent start for me as the GM of the Wolves.  Mo Cheeks had a triple double in game #2.  Gatling is only averaging 30/game but I expect that to go up. Look for the Wolves to score a lot of points this season... but it will be up to the D to make enough stops to get me wins.

when another 7'5" was replacing 7'6" you went 1-4 !

guess size doesn't always matter ...

Kinda surprised with this team. 7-1 start. Quite impressive. Started off with 2wins against Raptors. Beat the Bucks but lost to the Cavs in OT. Mediocre schedule but great start.

Title: Re: Sim 1 Up

2-5 start. Shooting a blistering .475 (blistering for any team I've ever managed), but not generating any offence off the defense - might have to tweak there; plus, we're turning the ball over like crazy. Tough schedule to start, going 0-5 on the road, including a debilitating loss to the Heat. A lot of nice performances, and usually started well before fading, but a young and new team will do this I suppose.

Jim Finley really schooled Joe Carroll - holding him to 1/15 shooting, and earning POTG honors against the Hawks.
Jeff Robertson is playing like a man possessed at the PF - fifth in the league in pts, tied for 8th in boards and a few POTG awards. More durable at this position, but TO's and lack of blocks (0.1? huh?) are abit of a concern.
Morey and King are making nice contributions, and Memo has been so-so.

More importantly, the rookie report:
Chris Cho has made a believer out of me. Several high scoring games, avg'ing 18.9/4.7rebs(6'1 SG) on .500 shooting and 1.9 steals, and typically a + player. Nice.
Loving Ian Magliore - definition of pass first point guard, even if it is a little erratic at times lol (one 10 TO game, and 4.3/game). 4th in the league in assists at 10.3 and shooting passable %'s. I suspect the TO's will settle down in time.
Kevin McHale, playing the three, averaged 12.9ppg on .569 shooting. Won a matchup with John Tyler, was solid against some others, but not so much against Schultz - who owned him.
Jordan Payton - struggling out the gate. But he'll be fine.

Time to try a few different things. Can't hurt.

oh baby.... shultz is looking a lot more like marion now  i guess teams need to shut down shultz and keogan now  :D....but i had a poor first sim...going 5-4... made a mistake in the dc...il fix 5 that  :D

Title: Re: Sim 1 Up

4-5 that is a lot better than i expected.
had possible the hardest schedule ever here, playing celtics, heat, twice magic and raptors..
beat magic once behind a stellar bench play of nate scoring 9pts in 2mins ..lol
lost in the last quarter against a lucky celtics team which get a scoring lesson by lenard
had also a very tough last quarter loss against raptors.
shooting % is a bit lit low but guess that comes natural without your best passing man.
tuttle is definite a steal avg. 1.3 steals and 2.2 steals
peters is doing great almost avg the same numbers like artest- really have to consider him as a starter.

Phillip Tuttle was my project but I have to cut him because I needed a roster spot.  Too bad he only improved his rebounding once since coming into the league and nothing else.

Excellent start to the season for my Rockets.

5-1 and conceding only 88ppg... without Barton O'Connell!

O'Connell played only 1.5 games due to injury this sim. McCracken has done well in his absence though!

This has always been a major problem for us, but the additions of McCracken and Jeannette in the off-season look to have toughened us up a bit.

Everyone is contributing. Most notably:

Bob Pollard: 9.2ppg, 5.3rpg in 14minutes
Ivan Strong: 9.8ppg, 7.2rpg and .500 3P% in 18minutes
Frank Hyatt 8.5 off the bench in 18mins
then...
Isaac McCracken! 12.2ppg, 6rpg and 7.2apg when O'Connell went down injured in game 2!
