Title: Wolves - Nets: Part Two Post by: NetsGM on November 04, 2006, 01:50:46 AM Wolves trade:
SG Jordan Payton to the Nets for: Utility Man Mason Perry. Nets agree. Again, moved around some assets of various worth to get a guy I really like. Roster is more balanced, I have three guys 6'4 or taller to balance out the height issues that might effect Cho/Macy in the backcourt, e.g., run Morey at the point. I accept... why'd there have to be a part 2 :( Title: Re: Wolves - Nets: Part Two Post by: CelticsGM on November 04, 2006, 02:05:54 AM oh what a blockbuster deal.
;-) after Wolves got two first rounders yesterday for nothing I was fully expecting Gatling moving for half of the Nets team. And now it's a mere exchange of projects winner: Wolves. Actually Perry has as much chance for a solid career as Payton, and they got 2 1st rd picks on top. (what's more puzzeling is that the Wolves best (young) player is a PG and what do they now select with the #20 pick? Exactly ...) on a sidenote: after this draft i expect around 50 starting calibre PGs to be available in FA, so every team should be 3 deep with starting PGs for this coming season. Title: Re: Wolves - Nets: Part Two Post by: NetsGM on November 04, 2006, 07:49:45 AM Wolves trade: SG Jordan Payton to the Nets for: Utility Man Mason Perry. Noone said it was a blockbuster, I don't think . Your opinion is fair enough tho, Tom. ;-) after Wolves got two first rounders yesterday for nothing I was fully expecting Gatling moving for half of the Nets team. And now it's a mere exchange of projects winner: Wolves. Actually Perry has as much chance for a solid career as Payton, and they got 2 1st rd picks on top. I made a strong effort to use them to move up, because though there were some nice players at 15-20, noone I wanted as much as what was available at 11-14. This ended up being the cost, not just from Wolves, with other team - and trading a pair of lesser picks and a future one that should be very late first round won't kill me. At the time, my plan was to draft two particular players at 11 and 14 who would set up my roster just nicely moving forward but I did a little bonus scouting, which changed things alittle bit, and was part of the reason I took Payton and not others. Talent wise, yes, I suppose Perry could end up being just as good as Payton - but still, Perry is a long long way from being a starter at C-PF - wouldn't have played for me there- and most useful right now at the 3 - where I have King and Morey - so he wouldn't play for me there either. So right now he's third string at best at any position he plays, with long-term guys ahead of him. I don't know Perry's true potential, but he did nothing last year in TC as I recall, and I have good reason to think that Payton has a bright future. Besides, I have four rooks on my roster from this year alone and am pushing the limits there, so it's a gamble worth taking. Besides, I'm trying to remain cap-happy for now and the future. These later picks (Perry, 20, Heat) amount to around 6 mil in cap space that I feel is better spent on a more sure thing (Payton) and future free agents. Not even when those rookies were called MJ or Malone
...and if you believe the Kings won because of Magic, check their record with and without him. See, the veteran supporting cast is what it's all about. And you haven't got one. See, the veteran supporting cast is what it's all about. And you haven't got one. But i'd be glad if you'ree the one to break that spellĀ“... :-) It's a valid point about the depth of veteran players - I don't have a lot. I do have Robertson, who shoulders the main load on offense. Morey is a young vet who can start at the 2-3 if the kids aren't up to it, possibly even the point. King and Macy are in their second years, so might emerge abit. In fact, even if King just gives a slight increase to the solid (but unspectacular) production that he gave last year, I'm pretty set at three positions at least. I have enough kids that if even one of the four/five emerge among them (I think Cho/Payton can produce right off the bat for example, Mags too in all likelihood and probably McHale) then I'm set at four spots at least with some nice versatility and young talent to support off the bench or in trades. Plus, the off-season isn't over yet....I have a number of point guards I can resign to take pressure off Mags, S&T options abound, and I have about 12 mil in cap space to either find some vet support in FA (limited, but there are some!) and with the hard cap change right around the corner, there should be some options there. I don't really need free agency or trade right now to get me scoring or stars, I'll develop those I hope amongst what I have - I'm mostly looking for complimentary guys who should be attainable. |
