Title: Offseason Discussion (Randolph, O'Neil retire!!!)
Post by: GrizzliesGM on October 30, 2006, 12:39:11 AM
I am really surprised with Zach Randolph retiring. I really got lucky that i traded him when I did.

ZACH RANDOLPH RETIRED ???

Can't believe Zachary hung 'em up at the tender age of 33 ... I nearly traded for this guy to lead my offense once Dirk and Shawn can't go anymore.
And I get another season from 37yr old Marion and Nowitzki, which is just perfect. Next year, with the hard cap finally coming down to teen figures, they will leave for good, and provide some big cap space to me (yes, i know that there's one more big salary here, but that will most likely leave as well).

Couldn't ask for a better season start ...

Very excited to have the 1 and 5 picks. I think I can land 2 starters there for now and the future of my club. Should be a step in the right direction for my troubled franchise.

Say hello to the worst free agent class in league history.
http://rosters.ssbabasketball.com/fa/fa-pos.htm

I counted exactly ONE player who will be a sure starter next season, and a handful of role players who maybe could for better teams. That's it. Unbelievable actually, a year from the definite hard cap.

(but it could be worse: now imagine you had just 2 players on your roster and 23mio to spend on THAT class ...  :lmao:)

...and a future first from one of the oldest team in the league (who are crap even now). :lmao:

1. I think the only possible explanation is that somehow Derek horribly mispelled some other retiring players name.....
2. Grizzlies - thats not very sportsman-like  :(
3. On the contrary for me, Celts. That's a pretty disappointing start to my offseason - once I saw that Zach's D improved at the 3, I actually had plans that very much so included him. In fact, he had a big role in what I hoped would be a one-year rebuild - and crimps my plans abit for moving around some picks too as I'll need the depth.
4. When I was feeling lucky and happy to get the third pick in the draft, I had this sneaking suspicion that I'd get FBB'ed somehow - guess this is it.
5. Yes, this free agent class is pretty lousy. The guy who intrigued me most, who I planned on offering every penny to, has already resigned with his previous team - for a paltry amount no less. Argh.
6. I don't think I've ever seen a relatively young guy (33) retire after a 20-10 season....I hope my moving him over to the three didn't push him over the edge.
Ah well, on to the draft.

that's a shame, more room for the younger stars I guess

On my team, that will mean lots of touches for Cho and McHale on beautiful feeds from my mystery pick at #11 who was option 1B for pick #3. It could potentially be a very long year.

Thrilled now with my core.... youngsters McHale, King, Payton, Cho, Macy, Magliore, youngish vets Robertson and Morey, and about 12 mil in cap space. A lot of versatility, good base defence, nice scoring options....

I'm pretty happy not to lose McGrady or Yao to retirement. They are both eager for another title
