Title: Bucks/Mavs Post by: BucksGM on October 01, 2006, 06:15:45 PM Bucks Trade:
Bailey Baron This year's 1st. Mavs Trade: Melo Bucks agree. I don't care for this year's draft class, I'll still have a little cap room to spend in the offseason, and replacing Bailey will be easier than getting someone like Melo. Melo/Mehta/Arenas is a nice little nucleus. Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: MavsGM on October 01, 2006, 06:27:40 PM Mavs Agreed.
Really disappointed on how this team came out of the gate. I'm still in PO race.. Toby was the main reason I did this trade. Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: NetsGM on October 01, 2006, 06:40:09 PM I didn't really like Baron/Arenas at SG/SF, but I thought Bailey had taken a nice step up this year, and giving up a 22 year old like that is tough. But, I do agree that you can probably get by, I guess it depends on how close you think you are to contending.

Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: KingsGM-old on October 01, 2006, 06:51:50 PM Quote Melo/Mehta/Arenas is a nice little nucleus. It's kinda old nucleus IMO. Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: SonicsGM on October 01, 2006, 07:31:14 PM Bucks get worked here. Deal a young stud for an older player with a much larger salary. Oh yeah, they included their pick as well. Good job Mavs, you just improved your team's future dramatically in my opinion.
Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: BucksGM on October 02, 2006, 01:02:15 AM 30/32/27 isn't that old. There are a lot of B/B/B centers in free agency to plug in.
Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: PacersGM on October 02, 2006, 01:41:24 AM there isn´t one C with the scoring ability of bailey.
melo is a nice scorer but you find good scorer on the wing position a lot easier than good C. And last year you had the chance to find that scorer and missed on tyler. after that you overpaid for arenas and now you go for melo instead to keep a C on his rookie contract and go for another big offseason. Can´t udnerstand that. mavs did a great job here not only getting the better player but also a solid pick. Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: CelticsGM on October 02, 2006, 04:22:09 AM Tobey Bailey is 22, has played 1.2 season, and is a 24/10/2 scorer getting 2 blocks.
Melo is 30, has played 12 seasons and is a 24/7/3 scorer getting 0.2 blocks. Bailey in 112 games has career highs of 45pts and 20 boards and 5 steals Melo in 901 games has career highs of 69 pts and 17 rebounds and 7 steals (but his high for the Mavs in the last 3 seasons is 54 two seasons ago) And Melo is playing little defense (that's a fact, he doesn't DEFEND opponents, he tries to OUTSCORE them) Bailey is the better player NOW and immediately fills the weakest Mavs roster spot ... great job. Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: BucksGM on October 02, 2006, 11:19:04 AM To start, I wasn't terribly high on the draft class. And Tobey put up those numbers with an inside focus as the #1 option. His %s have struggled this season as well, and he hadn't improved on the B/B defense/rebounding. If he averages 23 for the Mavs I'll be impressed.
If I thought I could get something like Melo via the draft or free agency, I wouldn't have done the trade :) I can find better defenders/rebounders than Tobey, replace his points per game with Melo, and still have some cap room. But hey, nobody can predict the future, or there wouldn't be any trades :D Title: Re: Bucks/Mavs Post by: BucksGM on October 02, 2006, 11:20:48 AM Also, it's a little harsh to say I overpaid for Arenas. I offered that contract when he was a B+/B+/A- with no way of knowing he'd drop so badly in the TC. In fact, if he hadn't dropped like that, I wouldn't have needed to trade for Melo.
