Title: ClippersGM notes
Post by: ClippersGM-old on September 23, 2006, 11:12:59 AM
I wrote this in my own trade thread, but later I thought it should be a seperate thread on the General Board.

You know, trade offers in this league sometimes drive me nuts. I must definitely agree that whenever I make an offer, I also try and make my team better. That of course is the whole idea of trading! But still I always take a look at the other GM's team. And so I try not to insult him.

Eventhough Brand, Maggette and co were all 30+, they are all still great for playoff teams. They can bring you that title when your team is close but missing one piece.
You should have seen some of the offers I received!! On those days I wonder if I still want to be in the league.
YOU GOTTA GIVE TO GET!

I can honestly say that I was more pleased with Chandler and Gordon not re-signing so that they could choose themselves where they went to instead of me trading them to another team for a crap offer that won't help my team anyway.

I hope all of the Clipper Champions (Brand, Chandler, Kwame, Gordon, Maggette, Perry,...) retire soon. They had a great carreer and I thank them for that. I will now start over. It won't take too long before the Clippers are back where they belong... on top of the Western Conference.
(note: 'not too long' for me is a couple seasons. I take my time to build and have a team gel. I know other GM's think of not too long as in a couple sims when they start trading like crazy.)

I dunno, I think you gotta assume that the first offer somebody makes is gonna be crap.  It makes no sense to give out your best offer right off the bat.

I don't get it. Why is that a suprise to you? Sometimes, some people really act like we don't know each other and you always get some terrible, dumb offers which are yes, insulting. But i'm used to it. That only tells you about their psychological skills. They can't (or they won't) predict your respond and your way of thinking.

And second, i really don't know what do you expect. It's like a unwriten rule that you can't get anything for 30+ year old players, no matter how good they are. I mean, do you remember what did i get for Dirk and Mcgrady? What Warrirors got for Nowitzki? You said you know they can help on a  contending team and all you want is good picks in return. Well, those two don't go hand by hand. I mean, how many contenders have lotto picks? There are numerous factors (matching sallaries, quality of the picks, # of contending teams who have all the conditions mentioned earlier, fillers etc etc) that makes almost impossibe to get something decent in return for a 30+ year old player.

Just look at the offers Sixers had this summer for Iverson and you'll get the picture. At the end of the day, you're lucky if you get a single pick and expiring. That's how it goes.

I guess you are right... oh well. Let's forget about this and move on. :)
