Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: KingsGM-old on September 21, 2006, 12:54:31 PM Damn. Really wanted Lamar Odom. Oh well...
Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: MavsGM on September 21, 2006, 01:08:40 PM Odom and Jackson :bash:
Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: WizardsGM on September 21, 2006, 01:22:30 PM Dang, was going to throw an offer at Jackson after I used up my cap space and use my bird rights to do so. Ah well.
Salmons provides some defence off the bench if I have injuries or players struggle. Also an expiring contract that helps me next season or in the trade situations. Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: GoldenStateGM on September 21, 2006, 01:38:58 PM Sigh... Again, no one take my offer...
The Luke Jackson signing was a huge coup for the Pistons... Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: Iverson2Korver43 on September 21, 2006, 02:07:22 PM looks like I was lucky to sign Jackson... Hopefully he can give my old ass team some quality minutes...
Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: SonicsGM on September 21, 2006, 02:20:19 PM I was really hoping to land Jackson or Odom, and i had $400,000 more to offer those guys. I guess it was too much to ask that either of those two would come to the Pacific Northwest for a starting role.
Landing Turkoglu will at least help out my depth Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: CelticsGM on September 21, 2006, 02:31:21 PM ... Landing Turkoglu will at least help out my depth Hey, that's ANTONIO Turkoglu. Have you seen him play lately (i mean ANYTIME over his career) ? Any you gave actual cap money for him ? Oh well ... :hail: Anyway, great to land the next Ronny Roof in Beantown. Luis Weatherspoon, 18 years of age and full of potential. Hope to pair him with Roof for my twin towers of 2020 ... ;-) Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: CelticsGM on September 21, 2006, 02:39:36 PM Dang, was going to throw an offer at Jackson after I used up my cap space and use my bird rights to do so. Ah well. Salmons provides some defence off the bench if I have injuries or players struggle. Also an expiring contract that helps me next season or in the trade situations. Let me get that straight, you lost both Luke Jackson and Lamar Odom TO GET A CHANCE AT SIGNING SALMONS TO 2.7 MIO FREAKING DOLLARS ? Sorry, but that's absurd, completely beyond my widest imagination ... :bash: :bash: :bash: But still, bad mistake from my side, as Duncan, Odom were on my list of "no chance with MLE", since I can't think of a single reason to NOT offering them a double digit mio contract for one year. At least ... :bash: Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: SpursGM-old on September 21, 2006, 02:49:44 PM Damn...still no MLE signing. I guess when you return your top 8 or 9 players from the sixth best record last season then no one wants to compete for playing time. And I sure could use a third PG & SF.

Jackson I am not fussy on as everyone else. This season I am planning to see what my young guys can do, to see if they have any potential to be players in this league. Sure, I agree you have no use for them, BUT ... seeing their demand - and it's no surprise people are high on Luke and Odom - they are great trade assets to get young guys or picks or anything for them. Always better than getting nothing at all. And it's not like those block your kids from playing time ... anyway, sorry i didn't want to bash you that hard, maybe because it's out of frustration cause i thought it's not necessary to offer for them ... :-( Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: WizardsGM on September 21, 2006, 03:40:38 PM Meh, its not like my young team has championship aspirations. But since I did not get any offers (or at least sane offers) last year on them, when they were even bigger expirings, I felt less of a need/desire to try it one more time. Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: CelticsGM on September 21, 2006, 05:37:30 PM that's the tricky part.
try to get a 20mio expiring traded and you get crazy. try to get a 6mio expiring traded and suddenly the offers are getting in. up to 10mio you can usually get expirings away pretty easily. Higher salaries just limit you in what you can/will get back and makes lots of trades impossible. Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: PacersGM on September 22, 2006, 01:01:18 AM FA is really crazy that is now the 3rd time this year that i lost out on a FA with the same offer. guess winning % is for nothing.

After trying to shop his expiring all of last season? I'm surprised. I thought you'd go for a big expiring again ... I thought you'd go for a big expiring again ... you think he would take 17mill before he take a 2yr contract? and since i had a backup plan to get back under the hard cap during the season i couldnĀ“t offer more. Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: HeatGM on September 22, 2006, 06:51:17 AM wow... i signed Lamar odom for only an MLE :) that's really surprising...nobody offer him more than that?
Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: NetsGM on September 22, 2006, 09:49:00 AM Quote you think he would take 17mill before he take a 2yr contract? Actually, yes. If a player makes 17 million this year, all he has to make is 3 million next year to make the same amount of money over the same time span. Obviously, a player who got 17 million this year thinks he's going to be good enough to command more than 3 million in the open market next year. Obviously, a player who got 17 million this year thinks he's going to be good enough to command more than 3 million in the open market next year. don't try to explain everything with logic. there's a player "satisfaction" rating that have an influence on the decision I even have witnessed a player take a MLE offer from one team over a 3yr deal starting at 5.5mio from another team, apparently making the decision because of potentially more playing time  Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: MavsGM on September 22, 2006, 11:39:38 AM Quote you think he would take 17mill before he take a 2yr contract? Title: Re: Day 4 FA Results Post by: NetsGM on September 22, 2006, 12:27:29 PM there's obviously an AI built in for decision making process. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that they can:
1) See what teams they're less likely to get PT on 2) Make a self-determination (a combination of their abilities and greed) on what they think they can get. I don't have verification, but as a programmer, it wouldn't have been hard to implement. |
