Title: Sim 1 preview
Post by: CelticsGM on May 30, 2006, 10:32:10 AM
Let's start the new season NOW !!!!

This offseason dragged on like forever. What a pleasure to finally see the real season around the corner ...

Celtics kick off with some tough assignements. Probably the toughest schedule in the league, but nevertheless we try to stay unbeaten for sim 1. Everyone is healthy and ready to go, so I'm positive this will get me the coveted W's.

Celt's will try to relieve Matrix from having to shoot 50 times a game by putting him 3rd option. Hope Schabinger can continue his torrid offensive display from last season (and emerge from Lenards shadow) playing full-time at SF now. This spot is his to lose. And I'm expecting big things from Trump who i'd like to be instant offense from the bench for us. Reed will continue to handle the PG duties but i'm sure the Chauncey minutes will be enough for Trump to shine.

The frontcourt just needs to stop guys. No scoring other than putbacks is needed and expected. Boozer/Thomas/Griffin should make a nice rotation and until young Roof joins the team Doleac will take the remaining minutes.

An now

LET'S PLAY BALL !

Raptors have been waiting anxiously too.

Unfortunatly, the league has decided NOT to schedule any games for the Raptors, and therefore we hope our 0-0 .500 record will be enough for a playoff spot.

On a more serious note, regardless of the competition, this first sim has disaster written all over it for the Raps, with Micah Hunter starting and as a first option...huge risk-reward situation.

would you like to predict Ivan's fortune too? He said I'll be expecting a double sweep. But I think I'll be the one sweeping... the powdered bones of his players.

Well, this should be evry inteersting...
After not having to amke any starting lineup changes for two years, I will now have a chance to experiment...  And I am going to have to, since this squad is now maybe a .500 squad...

How come you decided to rebuild now considering you don't have your pick this season?

I know Dirk's value will probably be even lower next year but at least you should have kept him until the trade deadline, no?

I'm looking forward to this season. I think my team is a lot better then last year and I'll defnitely be competing his season, or at least trying to. I should be able to get at least 40 wins this year, maybe 45.

Can't wait to see how my young "run and gun" team would perform. I put Bolinger, ward and wells all in the starting 5 and all three of them are my primary secondary and tertiary scoring options.

Title: Re: Sim 1 preview
Post by: NetsGM on May 31, 2006, 09:38:30 AM
EST = GMT-5.

That's why I typically say GMT-5 rather than EST, as EST is more of a reference for people in US.

Title: Re: Sim 1 preview
Post by: KingsGM-old on May 31, 2006, 09:47:43 AM
Not that GMT-5 is any reference at all, lol.

Raps, what time system you use in Canada? It's diferent from US?

Title: Re: Sim 1 preview
Post by: NetsGM on May 31, 2006, 09:58:11 AM
GMT = Greenwich Mean Time.

Time in Greenwich, England.

all I know is EST. I just have to add +90 minutes on our local time. And when its AM its PM here, and vice versa. haha

Title: Re: Sim 1 preview

GMT = Greenwich Mean Time.

Time in Greenwich, England.

Ah, i didn't get it by abbrevation.

Title: Re: Sim 1 preview
Post by: CelticsGM on May 31, 2006, 10:27:53 AM
ok, let me do some eduction here.

GMT (greenwich mean time) is the standard world time. So every time you hear someone say "00:00 GMT" you know it's midnight in London, UK (not to be confused with London, Ontario, and believe me, if you had been THERE - I was - you wouldn't !!!)

CET (central european time) is the main european timezone. Most of Europe live in that zone (Portugal, UK, and some eastern european countries are the exception). It's GMT + 1, so when it's midnight in London (UK, you know by now) it's already 1am in the morning in VIENNA, OSIJEK and BRUXELLES.

EST (eastern standard time) is the timezone for the US east coast (that's where New York, Philly and even Miami live). About 65% of SSBA GMs are from there too. It's GMT - 5, so when it's midnight in London (...) you prepare for dinner in "EST land", as it is 7pm EST.

I won't even go into central and midwest timzones, and every child knows that PST (pacific standard time) which is used all the way from Baja California to Vancouver Island (hey, that's the whale trail !) is GMT -8. So when it's midnight in London . you just leave work at 4pm in LA and head to the beach like everyone else.

So if bods now says 10pm let's do some calculation ...
achczegzesdcdcsjhfruceifrekflrkfjlrefjkrelkfjrekfljref
... done.

10pm BODS TIME equals 4am IVAN TIME.

and now i earned some beverage ...

that's easy:

a.m. means After Midnight while
p.m. means Past Mid....

now wait a moment, I have no idea.

anyway, AM is before noon and PM is after noon.

I just never completely understood why it can be 12:30am then. According to THIS page it actually can't be (but i know it still is): http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/info/noon.htm

Yeah, i knew that before. But even then, sometimes things weren't logical so i wasn't sure how accurate that is. I have no idea anymore. Why can't we all use the simple 0-24 clock, and just +/- hours? :)

True.
And we yould all use centimeters, km/h, liters and the EURO curreny. I mean who needs inches, mph, gallons and the dollar.
And Beatrix from netherlands would be our Majesty, the Queen.

On a 24 hour clock...

0:00-12:00 = AM (ante meridiem: (latin) before middle day).

12:01-23.59 = PM (post meridiem: (latin) after middle day)

Tom, 12:30 AM is the same as 00:30 on 24 hour system (military time in US lexicon)

But you see the illogicality here.

AM and PM are seperated into 12 hour blocks, yet each one runs from 01:00 to 12:59. Why?
If this information is true (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/info/noon.htm) AM and PM should run from 00:01 to 12:00

The confusion actually lies in whether 12:00 midnight is AM or PM.  Same with 12:00 noon.  Everyone knows that 11:59:59 AM is 1 second before noon and that 12:00:01 PM is 1 second after noon.  But noon has never been defined as either AM or PM. So there is 11 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds in each AM or PM period.

Actually, Kirk's leaving caused havoc with my original plan...
With Hinrich, Deng, and Ruffin, I felt that I still ahd a playoff team.  heck, devin Hinkle played so well in the playoffs, I though I could easily make the playoffs, with whoeevr I received in replacement for Dirk.

But, when Hinrich left, I was screwed.  And, to be honest, Hinrich had alwasy been the key to the Warriors...  It was his play that won or lost playoff games.

So, I decided to start over...  probably should have tried to get my pick back first, but, oh well...

Hahaha... lovely to read this thread! As I have travelled a lot, and lived in both Europe and the US, that whole time zone thing is not very complicated for me.
I read someone asked about the Phillipines... I am not sure (have to look it up on internet) but I know that Malaysia is GMT+7 as a good friend of mine now lives in Kuala Lumpur for a year.

Anyway... I am looking forward to this new season. I think the Clips are ready for it. Despite the aging team, Brand, Chandler and Maggette all got better and the other players remained the same. This could be another great run.

Btw, I screwed up my ankle playing soccer. :s  I will be in rehab for at least 6 weeks. So no more american football this year and hopefully I will be ready to play basketball again this summer. Also want to go kitesurfing in august, so I need to get better soon. And as being a phys ed teacher... my schoolyear is over. I will sit at home, rest and rehab. So maybe I have time to bring another championship to Clipperland!!!

You should never wait up for a sim.  Right now I'm not all that reliable with my schedule (I just got home from work, at 12:56, and have class at 8 am).  And probably won't be for the next week (Last class next thursday!).

Sim has been postponed, I'm going to run sim 1 and 2 together and do 20 days tomorrow.

I don't want to sound like a bastard or anything, but maybe it would be better to just postpone SSBA for a while.

It makes it hard when each sim is postponed, and starting off the season simming 20 days is hard as well (especially when a team is experimenting like I am!) If that experiement doesn't work out for me, the damages are now twice as big.

Bods, I know it's not your fault, believe me, you don't deserve any of this blame. But perhaps if we postpone sim one until next Thursday, and then sim 10 days, that might be easier on everyone.

Again, not saying you are doing anything at all wrong, life comes before sim always.

Thanks, but no.  I might just not sim 20 days, but I'm not pushing it off for a week.  Last night's delay actually had more to do with Work than School (I was scheduled to get out at 6 pm, I left there about 11:15 LOL).  The reason I wasn't able to do it right when I got home is because I had an 8 am class, but the reason I wasn't able to do yesterday evening was because a server basically said F you at work and I put in like a 14 hour day.

Bods, I am with the Raptors on this one.  I was thinking about it as I drove to work this morning.  The league seems to drag during the offseason but I see no reason to rush the regular season.  Simming 10 games at a time works well.  And with new players...either through FA or the draft...the first few sims are important for determining who plays well together, rotations, etc.

I realize that ultimately it is your call.  The amount of time that you put into this league is phenomenal and I wouldn't trade with you for anything.  However I don't see why we need to rush through the season.

I'm with the others here. Do we have to meet any deadline to finish the season "in time" ?
No.

So if sims are delayed for whatever reason there is no urgency to "make up lost time". Let's just keep the "10 days a sim" format and push the whole thing back.

And we could also go back to "Sim 10 = trade deadline". Extending the deadline with that sim10 till day 99 gives you actually one less sim for experiments before the playoffs start. I'd rather have 3 complete sims AFTER the deadline than two. Just my opinion ...

btw, I'm still completely exhausted from zapping through 90 days of box scores last night ...

Very nice start for the Cavs going 3-1. Palacio was excellent, leading the team with 23 PPG. Adams was a surprise, he's playing great. The whole team played well. And Manning, possibly my best offensive player, hardly played at all. I'll have to get him in there somehow.

Wow...  Warriors are a surprise so far.  Very decent 5-3 sim.
Jim Finley has been a rebounding beast, averaging 13.3 rpg.
Andre has played evry well, except for hos 2 games aginst Dirk.  17 ppg and 5 rpg in only 27 mpg..
Luold deng is doing well, excpet for his shooting percentage.  19 ppg and 8 rpg
Tinsley is not shoting well, but his 10.56 apg looks mighty nice, as do his 13 ppg.

only 3-3 sim lenard disapointed so far. Artest is leading the league in 3pt%. JO is shooting over 50% and harris is showing nice improvements. English avg over 10 ass which is nice but he is dominating the ball too much and shooting more than artest for example.
next sim will be a complete disaster since i have to play magic twice, nets, hornets etc..

What a sim! 4-1 ALL road game no less! Only loss came against the Clips in game where i led by 16 at the break.

vs the Clippers; Dirk with 40pts, 7as, 6rebs and Mcgrady with 25 but that's about it.
vs the Warriors; Dirk torched his former team with 36pts which was enough for a 12 pts win.
vs the Spurs; Close game, only 1 point win but i'll take it.
vs the Warriors; Dirk again showed no mercy for his former team as he went for 43pts, 6as, 8rebs, Mcgrady joined him with 30pts of his own and Gasol posted 14pts and 12rebs.
vs the Celtics; First part of the triple sweep acomplished with a win over mediocre and helpless Celtics team as Tmac and Dirk combined for 55pts, 15rebs and 9asists. Poor Celtics never knew what hit them.

Offensively, this team isn't going to be stoped by no one. 100ppg on a very slow pace :shock: and is also great at not turnng the ball over. Only 9tpg. But also, some hillarious and troublesome warnings;

Team rebounds; 47  :rrofl:
Team blocks; 2.8  :rrofl:

I have some tough decisions to make, with 13 guys that deserve to be in the rotation but only 10 can really be done. Having too much depth sucks... :(

Tinsley is not shoting well, but his 10.56 apg looks mighty nice, as do his 13 ppg.

God i wish i could still have him. Still can't belive i had to give him just as friggin filler. :?

5-5 sim, not bad.  4-2 on the road, go figure.

Rex Mehta averaging 15/11.5/5.5 blocks and 6 player of the games was a nice start.

despite all the changes, which I thought for the most part were for the better, the same old Hawks are 1-7.  I realize its a whole new team and I will be patient and let this one gel, but I was expecting better.  A few close losses and I could be 3-5 or something more respectable.  Dwayne Wade has been very potent on the offensive end but he needs help.  Jacquez Holton was also impressive but Wooden and Diop didn't do great.  Phelps is turning it over way too much off the bench.

this isn't the right draft preview, correct?

Correct.  I'm hoping to finish the draft preview this weekend.

Fine start into the season.
Celtics averaged 118ppg on the first 4 games, losing to the surprisingly strong 76ers and not surprisingly to the Nets but beating Wiz and western powerhouse Grizzlies.

And I have no idea what happened next.

The wheels came off and we lost 3 of 4 on atrocious 36% shooting and averaing 83ppg. Marion was nowhere to be seen, even getting held to 1-17 shooting once. PG Reed stopped passing and suddenly started shooting (WHY?) on a horrendous 17fgapg (WHY?). And the defense fell apart consequently too.
 :screwy:

Hey, it's way too early to start panicking but something has to be done. This isn't cutting it in this tough conference. Julius will get his first try to prove the College player of the year was no fluke ...

My team started strong this sim.

My only loss was when bolinger was out, but I'm glad that Jonas was out there to step up in his absence(20+ points and 13assists).

I still feel that I need to improve defensively.

a bad 2-4 sim.. wasnt expecting this...but its too early to start panicking too  :D
keogan is doing a terrific job...not much on the boards though... haywood is in decline...but molina is picking it up... shultz need to pick up his scoring..... i feel like all i need is a perfect depth chart...if iv find it then im ok

Correct.  I'm hoping to finish the draft preview this weekend.

Damn, could you imagine getting a guy like Tobey on your team?

Like a better version already of my Rob Mourning in DJSL.

Looks like the best draft in a while....one that needs no tweaking.  Just change the names of the top 10-12 prospects and run with it.

how in the world did a star player of a team start the season injured not to mention this is a star player and happens to be his team's 2nd stringer, who undoubtebly is better than the team's starter, and only got to play not more than half of his team's game and played for less than 10mpg?

yeah, I was puzzled too how KG missed the first part of the season.

Didn't you realize in your win on day 1 ?

Especially seeing Stevie Franchise getting the starting nod at PF then made me quite happy. He's apparently serious about trying to average a triple double on the season ...
:-)))

aehm if i remember the DC chart right he had vice/KG/vice at PF

how could it be that in at least 3 games KG was listed behind Steve in the depth chart. Even when vice only played 24 mins KG couldnĀ“t get more than 3 mins?

Pretty suprising sim for Blazers, 5-2 and some really nice performances. Finally managed to beat
the Pistons, i believe ive beat teams like Nets,Hornets more time then them, actually i dont recall
beating them.

Clement is definitely a big help now, 13ppg on 47FG and 443PT shooting, could improve FT, and 7.1rpg
for a 6'4" is suprising, adding 5apg and 1.4spg a big sim for him.

Telf was pure magic first sim, great stats, great shooting, great everything.

Houbregs seems to be pissed off after sitting out most of last season and getting to the bench again,
DerMarr started but both got 14mpg and Russell did a lot better, fantastic on offense but DerMarr
has the defense so its gonna be a tough call whom to start next sim, i guess Russell will be given
another chance.

Up front Buehler,Bosh and Ricardo doing their defensive dutys good as always, Buehler and Ricardo
had a suprising offensive game as well.

and well finally Hoffa like Hoffa, just one super perfomance tough 45/18 in destruction of the
Celtics who will come winning again :O

Now lets see if this was just a blink, or this guys are finally ready to play some serious ball.

Hm...Oh boy.  I'm at work and don't have FBB in front of me, but judging by the boxscores it looks like I screwed up something on Keith's DC.  There's gonna be fightin in the bodner household next time I see him :P

Bailey Tobey looks like a very interesting prospect.  Very interesting.  Andre McGuire and Sura should be nice PG's, but it's hard to get too excited over a PG with how many there are in this league.  After that, I don't think it's that great.

Oh yeah, Maurice Cheeks will also be in this draft.  Oh, I know.  He was a 2nd round pick in '78.  But this is a 76ers fan, so I want to include a 2nd round pick I can ;)

I'm a little confused. From the rules page...

Quote
How Draft Files Are Created

Beginning with the 2016 draft, as decided in this link ( http://www.phillyarena.net/forum/index.php?topic=4502.0 ), draft files will be hand created with the first round of real NBA drafts (beginning in 1978).

Isn't this the 2015 draft that is coming up?
