Title: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: RaptorsGM on May 13, 2006, 06:51:19 PM The Dallas Mavericks Trade:
PF George Boykins SF Luke Jackson Detriot's 2014 First Rounder (13th) Dallas' 2016 First Rounder The Toronto Raptors Trade: Carmelo Anthony Tony Parker Raptors agree.. Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: MavsGM on May 13, 2006, 06:56:39 PM Mavs Accept. Luke Jackson was not the 2nd option on offense I was looking for. Boykin is a good PF but he tends to disappear from big games and often in foul problem. I think this trade will help both us.
Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: NetsGM on May 13, 2006, 06:57:46 PM I love this trade for the Mavs. turning two 17-19 ppg guys into one of the best scorers in the league is great. Carmelo's exceeded my expectations greatly.
Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: MavsGM on May 13, 2006, 07:00:00 PM I needed a go to guy and I think/hope Melo is the guy when the game is on the line. Melo and LeBron teammates again.
Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: RaptorsGM on May 13, 2006, 10:32:34 PM Well for me, it fills my roster out perfectly. A team of:
Swift/Duncan/Garcia Boykins/Kim Jackson/Dickau Chills/Hunter Max/Dench Is very, very good. Plus the 13th pick in this year's draft, plus another mid first in 2016 to go along with my hopefully top 5 Spurs first. I think I will win 50+ games for the next 4+ seasons. Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: RaptorsGM on May 13, 2006, 11:45:36 PM I guess this also means I have turned Yao into Swift, Boykins, Jackson, Dench, 13th pick this year, 27th pick this year, Mavs 2016 First.
Not bad. Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: PacersGM on May 14, 2006, 03:59:31 AM i love this trade for the mavs. i don´t know if melo and bron can play together but they get a lot of scoring without giving up a star.
luke is a shooter with no defense at all and boykins is a solid pf who underachieves in big games imo. Not sure if a balanced starting 5 with no go to guy can win 50+ in the east considering that celtics improved their roster and there are still magic (if they resign brice) , nets, hornets and the improving wizards. So you mean you turned a franchise player into nothing more than 4 role players, 2 draft picks in the weakest draft in decades and a bottom future draft pick? :bash: Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: RaptorsGM on May 14, 2006, 09:14:07 AM i love this trade for the mavs. i don´t know if melo and bron can play together but they get a lot of scoring without giving up a star. luke is a shooter with no defense at all and boykins is a solid pf who underachieves in big games imo. What? He plays B+ defense. He will be just as solid as Melo defensively. Melo is NOT an A- defender. You can't compete in this league unless you have an inside prescence. Boykins' 19 and 9 gives me an inside prescence. And I now have a guy who can score 12 at C, 19 at PF, 20 at SF, 14 at SG, 16 at PG. IMO, that's better than having one guy who can score 30. I have a loaded frontcourt, and guys who could be starters backing up my backcourt. I'll be just fine. So you mean you turned a franchise player into nothing more than 4 role players, 2 draft picks in the weakest draft in decades and a bottom future draft pick? :bash: Role players are what win you championships. The Warriors didn't win the title because of Dirk. They won it because of Ruffin, Deng, and a strong bench. Carmelo is a fantastic scorer...but after the huge debate this draft about taking a scorer or all-around player, I'm surprised at the love for Melo. Melo is the definition of one-dimensional. A career 46% shooter...he scores because he takes more shots. This year he scored 30 ppg....on 23.5 shots. This, to me, is not efficient. He has a 1-to-1 assist:turnover ratio. He is a fantastic free throw shooter, but gets there less than 7 times per game. He has been player of the week ONCE, in 9 seasons. Boykins and Swift are going to make an excellent frontcourt. Best I've had since Yao-Mihm. And with Boykins-Jackson and Max, scoring won't be a problem. This is the start of a nice mini-run of contention for the Raptors. So you think luke can avg 20 without taking too many shots? Title: Re: Mavs-Raptors Strike a Deal Post by: RaptorsGM on May 14, 2006, 10:13:32 AM Umm...what site are you looking at, exactly? Luke shot 47.9%, 46.6% from 3 (which ranks him 6th in the league).
Melo shot 47.4%, 43.2% from 3. Melo is not an A- defender, he gets scored on ALOT. I haven't studied Jackson enough to know, and I doubt you have either. 2 years ago Luke averaged 20 points/game on 16.4 shots/game. This is quite near the same ratio as Melo, but I know have others I can rely on, like Boykins. This last year Boykins scored 19 a game on 15.4 shots/game. That's not too bad. And this also gives Max more of an option to score. This trade will benefit him the most of anyone. This past year Max scored 15.5ppg, on just 12.8 shots/game. |
