Title: Training Camp Hopes and Dreams
Post by: GoldenStateGM on December 09, 2005, 10:37:10 AM
Training Camp approaches...  the time when new draftees prove their worth, when some 2nd rounder explodes and makes a GM look like a genius, and when a team hopes of improvement are brought forth or dreams are shattered.

One of the most fun times of the SSBA season.  I am not being greedy, just hoping for some small improvements...

At center :
Jim Finley, please, work on you rebounding, and maybe your defense.  A bump in rebonding makes him the eprfect player next to Nowitzki.
Phillip Rubini...  Any improvement is good.  With a really good TC, you could compete for the starting spot.
Adonal Foyle...  please do not age too much this TC.
Alexis Hardaway, can you becoem the next Fortson?  Let's find out.
Charles Lavalley,  a surprise improvement last year.  Some rebounding improvement, and you could take Foyle's rotation spot when he retires.

At Power Forward :
Dirk Nowitzki, don't change a thing.  Perfect the way you are ;)
Don Ruffin.  You have improved so much lately, how could I hope for any more.  If that defense or rebounding go up, how could I possibly keep you out of the starting lineup?
Brian Schader...  err, show me somehting, or it is the IR for you, kiddo.

At SF
Luol Deng - if you folow your normal TC path, you are due for a big jump.  However, not really expecting anything at all.   Just keep it up.
James Posey, keep up your abilites, and you cold be the starting SG.  This is my TC competition.
Andre Iguodala, the SF with the starngest skillset...  A ddfensive boost would be great, but not counting on it.

At SG
Dean Springs, this is your chance.  A good TC, and te starting spot at Sg is yours.  Defensive improvement is a must, and some extra handling or outside would be a great bonus.

At PG
Kirk Hinrich, please do not change. :)
Daniel Holt, you had a bad TC last year.  Any improvement would be a bonus..

I'm looking to see what Brice and Doreel could bring in at the table :D They could be the Magic's new tandem of Steve Francis and Ray Allen. A scoring defense-less backcourt :-S

obviously, every year, I expect a lot from Dwight :D

And the specimen of Josh and Marquis will be back in the lab :D

C:
Samuel Dalembert - Please don't drop again.  Last couple TC's ain't been kind to him.  Dropped in both Rebounding and defense.
Trenton Lo -  Just stay the same.  Dropped a few years back, then went back up.

PF:
Emeka Okafor - I'd still love an outside shooting improvement, but I'm not expecting it.
Drew Gooden - Expecting nothing
Darko - Expecting nothing.
AJ Dial - not expecting anything, he's my 12th or 13th man on the roster.

SF:
Battier - just don't change.  please.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him drop.
Jamison - Last TC was beautiful.  Just don't drop.
Turkoglu - He's my 2nd highest hope for TC.  If he improves even just a little bit, this 23 year old is my only young SF.  I was gonna try to get him more time this year, but then I got Gooden and re-signed jamison.  Oh well.

SG:
Pettit - Would love an A+ at either outside or defense, or a B+ in inside, or a B- in handles (I'd like for him to either create more or turn the ball over less)
Salmons - just don't drop.

PG:
Boykins - hoping he doesn't drop, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does
Lord - My biggest hope for TC.  I'm hoping his potential is either a true B or an A.  Obviously would like for that defense to improve to at least a B in the next 3-4 years.

Nothing. I can just pray everyone stays the same. Camby i worried the most. I really need his defense.

Post by: RaptorsGM on December 09, 2005, 10:59:53 AM
Ohhh baby the Raptors are excitied for TC. First time we have ever had this many players with potential. To follow the Warriors format,

At C:

Yao Ming - Please just stay where you are, big fella. It's perfect. I don't expect any improvement from a 29 year old, but I don't expect a regression either.
Leo Sanders - Is it possible that YOU could be the 2nd rounder that blows up and makes me look like a genius, Leo? You were a great rebounder in college, and that is all I ask from my 2nd unit, grab those boards, young man.

At PF:

Gregory Holman - You're only 25, there'd no need to regress, you oughta just stay where you are.
Leocida Garcia -  I think you're my starter, so you better show that A potential to be true. I'm gonna need you to improve to B or B+ defense, anything else would just be gravy.

At SF:

JDN - This is your time to justify that contract, buddy. As of right now there are 3 SF's ahead of you in the depth chart, so show me that you deserve the roster spot. Improve that defense to A-, improve that offense, and we'll talke it from there.
Roberto Dicaku - Oh baby am I excitied about you, Rob. You are already a fantastic scorer, and some improvement there would be nice. But if that defense would improve, that would be awesome.
Tayshaun Prince - I know you have D potential, so I'm not asking for much, just don't regress and your defense will keep you on the chart.
Justin Bass - I think you've got a chance to be something special. YOu've got the size to play SF, and you've already acheived past your ratings. B/B/B in inside/outside/defense would be great.

At SG:

Mickael Pietrus - You've held that potential for so long, is it finally time to break out? You've lost your chance to be a 3rd option, but you could regain it back. If that offense goes to A-, you'll probably start.
Micah Hunter - You intrigue me. Alot. I think you have the potential to be a very, very good scorer. Like 17 ppg territory. We'll see if you start or not. I've got a chance to be a good defensive team OR a good offensive team, I'll have to see what I prefer.

At PG:

Max Guiterrez - You ARE the man on this team, so step up and prove it by having a great TC. Improve in every category and show everyone that Max is one of the top PG's in this league.
Darius Perry - You signed the big contract, so step up and earn it. You excell above every one of your ratings, so show me what you can really do out there, and you'll get some burn and some chances.
Darius Arbogast - Really, really want you to improve that defense, and you'll be the backup, for sure. Given the ratings you have now, I'm confident that yo could be a 13, 8 and 3 starter, but the defense just isn't good enough yet.
Damon Jones - Stay where you are, and know that if someone gets hurt, you're gonna have to man up.

C :
Haywood - Stay the same, or improve, best years are coming.
Cunningham - You could improve defense and rebounding a bit don't you think ?
Jackman - have faith in you, start improving and learn from olders.

PF :
Finley - improving defense would be perfect, work on shooting also.
Buehler - if you improve defense and rebounding, i'll get you some fine bitches.

SF :
Houbregs - work on defense, and keep your shooting great as it is.
Mitchell - just try and do something or you won't see any minutes this season

SG :
Schultz - improve the defense and shooting a bit and big reward is coming for you
Rush - stay the same please, you're perfectly good lookin'

PG :
Telf - improve handles and defense, prove you're worth to be team's captain
Bobby - stay the same
Alvin - improve those damn handles once alright ?

Swift: I want A defense
Pavel: Get your D back to an A-
Ben: Stay the same
Gadz: Stay the same
Melo: Stay the same
Livingston: Slight improvement in D or Handling
Radman: Stay the same

These are my realistic hopes

My team has thus far never lived up to their previously high scouted potential during TC.

My hope is that now that expectations are lower that this will be many of my player's breakout TC.

Berkowitz - up one in inside, one in outside, and at least one in defense

Costello/Butler/Ward - improve defense

Stockton - learning to be more aggressive a la Johnny Salmons this year would be nice

Ridnour/Odom/White/Pachulia - status quo would be great

Eh. That's what I can say about this TC. Nothing special, just alright. Don't really feel like breaking it all down. But Strait does look really good, improving 1 in both defense and rebounding, and keeping his A potential.

Post by: Str8westcoasta on December 09, 2005, 06:28:44 PM
Training camp was actually good to me... wow!

Carlos Boozer PF 27 6'9'' 258 B+ C- C B+ A C
 - Boozer is looking much stronger! +1 in defense and +1 in rebounding

Hunter Summitt SG 25 6'3'' 201 B B C B D D
 - +1 in outside scoring make him a nice all round shooting guard! Coming off nice numbers last year (15ppg), I'm expecting a good season from him!

Frank Hyatt SG 24 6'6'' 207 A- C+ C C+ C- D
 - +1 inside makes him a very useful weapon off the bench!

Speedy Claxton PG 31 5'11'' 170 C+ B- A- A C- C
 - +2 handles makes him a very reliable backup PG!

Dawson Wooden PG 24 6'1'' 190 C B- B B+ D+ B
 - +1 in defense. The 3rd of a very nice bunch of PG's

Barton O'Connell PG 22 5'11'' 196 C A- A+ C+ D A
 - Dynamite handles! +1 handle makes him a elite ball hander, an excellent shooter and still has A potential. This completes a VERY solid trio of PG's!

Overall, I'm happy!

Title: Training Camp Hopes and Dreams
Post by: RaptorsGM on December 09, 2005, 06:40:35 PM
Overall, I think I'm pretty happy. Let's take a deeper look:

Yao Ming - -1 inside, +1 outside, +1 defense. Great TC for the big man, gonna be able to defend at the highest level, and I expect the scoring to be what it always is - amazing.

Leo Sanders - +2 handles, +1 defense, +1 rebounding. Not sure I could have asked for anything else, he can eat the 10-12 minutes that Yao sits. Perfect.

Gregory Holman - +1 inside, +1 defense, +1 rebounding. Great TC for him. Could even potential start. Great LLE pickup.

Leocadio Garcia - +1 outside, +1 defense, +1 rebounding, -1 potential. Ok, cool. Couldn't ask for much more, he will probably start and be a double-double threat.

Roberto Dickau - +1 defense. Perfect. Nothing dropped, and the D went up. What more could I have asked. He's the starting SF.

Jamal Del Negro - -1 potential. I wouldn't be suprised to see the potential go back up next year. Anyhow, he is going to be a very capable backup on this team, unless he is traded somewhere he can start.

Tayshaun Prince - +1 outside. Awesome that I have an A-/A- outside/Defense player something every team should have.

Justin Bass - -1 handle, -1 defense, -1 potential. Slightly disapointing, but I won't worry about it too much. I feel that Bass plays about his ratings anyway.

Mickael Pietrus - -1 outside, -1 potential. A bit of a disapointment here, expected him to be able to hold his ratings, but it's only 1 drop, so I won't cry about it. Fully expected the potential to drop.

Kareem Longley - -1 inside, +1 handle, -1 defense, -1 potential. Again, since he's just a backup, I'm not too upset about it.

Micah Hunter - -1 inside, -1 defense. Argh, he was going to start, this I am angry about. But at least he will still be a good scoring backup.

Max Guiterrez- +1 outside, +1 defense, +1 rebonding. And kept his A potential? That is great. Really, really happy about this.

Darius Perry- +1 inside, +3 outside, +2 handles, +1 defense, +1 rebounding.   a total of +8, is that the best out there? And to think, he was a contract dump. And he ALSO held his A potential.

Damon Jones- stayed the exact same, which is just fine for a 33 year old.

Darius Arbogast- +1 inside, -1 potential. Probably the biggest dissapointment on the team. Was realy, really hoping to see the defense impove. Probably would average 15 and 8 as a starter, probably won;t see any burn on this team.

Yes it was a +7, with "only" a +2 in outside shooting. There has been a handful of players with +5 before, and a maybe a couple with +6, but I'm not sure. Definitely nothing higher than that, though.

Well the Raptors are faced with a bit of a dilemma.

I think the starters, as is, are Yao/Holman/Dickau/?/Max

However, that "?" needs to be answered. Tayshaun, Pietrus, or Perry?

I think we both have similar dilemmas, having 4th string point guards that are capable of being very good backups/2nd stringers. Depth sucks...

Well, got somethings I needed, and some things I did not.

Jim Finley went up one in rebounding, making him a nice starting center
Phillip Rubini gained defense and rebounding, making him a very valid starting center as well.

Nowitzki lost a rebound, and gained a Handle.  And, oh yeah, gained an outside.  He has to be the best offensive power player in the league now.

Ruffin gained a rebound, making him an A B+ player.  Lost a handle, though.
Iggy lost a handle...

Springs and Posey stayed the same, so neither helped the SG competition.

All in all, a decent TC.  My rebounding problem seems to be gone now. :)

Title: Training Camp Hopes and Dreams
Post by: Anonymous on December 09, 2005, 07:04:29 PM
Our first not-horrible TC since I took over as GM 3 and a half seasons ago.

The positives:

Andre Stocker - What can I say, he's going to be a stud. +1 to B in inside scoring, +1 to C in handles, +2 to B+ in defense.

Ernest Cousy - +1 to B- in rebounding. May get spot minutes behind Ruiz & Sweetney

Bob Diddle - +1 to A in outside scoring. Very nice for the offense I'm going to run

Corey Hoiberg - +1 to B- defense.

Richard Ahye - +1 to C+ in defense. Not quite as much of a liability on that end now and will see a few minutes as a shooter off the bench.

Terrence Przybilla - +1 to C in handles & +1 to C+ in defense. He'll share backup SG minutes with LaDon Curry.

Ricky Fisher - +1 to A in handles. Was hoping his D would go up but he still may be Sura's backup

Andy Miles - +1 back up to A- in handles after last season's disastrous TC.

The neutrals:

Trevor Wells - Stayed the same for the 3rd consecutive TC. I can't really complain.

Curtis Sura - Stayed the same. I'm a little disappointed his inside scoring didn't go up but I still have a quality PG for the first time since Marbury was dealt.

John Ruiz - My biggest disappointment. I was hoping he'd build on last season's solid TC with even more improvement. Instead he stayed the same and will split the PF load with Sweetney & backup Stocker.

Mike Sweetney - Stayed the same. I was a little worried he'd drop again this year so I'm pleased with this.

The Negatives:

Malik Allen - -1 to B in defense.

Nazr Mohammed - Nazr was hit the hardest as he dropped -1 to B in defense & -1 to B- in rebounding. He'll be relegated to the deep bench behind Stocker, Ruiz & Malik.

All in all I am quite pleased

Glancing around the league...

Chauncy took a big dive for the Celtics. Can they compete at the same level this year?

Khoury has just appeared like he could be a top PG this year for the Heat.

Could this be Petit's MVP year?

Stocktor looks great for the Knicks.

Jonas looks great for the Sixers. Could he start at PG?

Can't believe Nash didn't retire.

The Rockets have a great group of PGs.

Jazz have a weak group of big men...trade coming?

Dirk!

English had a poor TC.

And I think after TC both my picks got better.

Dammit, i forgot to save my file, actually i tought i did, but i remember more or less, im not too satisfied, some
disappointed a lot, some did like i expected.

Haywood improved defense, and droped potential(who cares)
Cunningham stayed the same, even with his very bad ratings, he actually puts some fine numbers and games.
Jackman, the highschooler improved a little

Finley improved rebounding to A-, his out i think droped from B to B-
Buehler improved outside, but he remained B+ df and reb, im pretty disappointed with that

Houbregs improved D
Mitchell was all C something, i believe he stayed the same, C something still

Schultz improved defense to A-, im very happy with that
Rush improved scoring, but was only player to drop 2 spots, and worst is, in defense, from A- to B

Telfair had the best TC, improved handling, defense and rebs.
Jackson and Zollner stayed the same, im happy with that, especially if Telf will get some 35mpg hehe.

Overall, a good TC for the Mavs.

Big Z - At the age of 34, I think age finally has caught up with Z, as he dropped -1 on D.
Nolan Keogan - +1 on inside and D.  Keogan looks like the future starting center for the Mavs.
Morris Lucas - Stayed the same.  This guy just too lazy.
James Clardy - +1 on D and rebounding.  When I drafted him, I knew he wouldn't give me any offense and I just hope he can become a solid D and rebounder for the team.  Headed in the right direction.
George Boykins - +1 at D and -1 at handling.
Kris Humphries - Stayed the same.
Brian Wright - +1 inside and -1 rebounding.  Came out of HS, not ready for the physical player of NBA yet.
LeBron James - Stayed the same
Luke Jackson - +1 at D and -1 on outside
Corey Gill - +1 on D and rebounding
Kirk Snyder - +1 on handling and D but lost -1 outside
Oscar Jeannette - stayed the same
Armando Thompson - +2 on outside, +1 on D and -1 rebounding.  Nice TC for Thompson.
Devin Harris - -1 at rebound
Jason Terry - -1 on inside, +1 on handling and rebound

Awful Training Camp for the Sonics.

Shaq: -3 Defense / -1 Handle / -1 Rebound
Bradley: -1 Potential
Wright: -1 Handle
Stro: -1 Potential
Baylor: +1 Outside / +1 Handle / +1 Defense
Lo: -1 Inside / +1 Outside
Shirley: -1 Inside / -1 Potential
Bee: +1 Inside / -1 Defense / -1 Potential
Kobe: +1 Outside / -1 Defense
Ratliff: -1 Defense / -1 Potential
Conradt: -1 Outside / +1 Potential
English: -1 Handle / -1 Defense / -1 Rebound
Watson: -1 Rebound
Francis: -1 Inside / +1 Rebound / +1 Potential
Monroe: No Change

Total: -23 Down / +9 Up = 14 Total Drop

However, The Stro/Lo for Gasol Trade changes things:
Gasol: +1 Defense / -1 Rebounding

Factor Gasol's changes, and the total team drop = 13

The first ever outside A+ player.  Pettit will be scary.

Dirk (A-, A-), Petitt (B, A+), and Yao (A-, C) will be seriously duking it out for the scoring title this year, I think.

Emeka: +1 handling
Lo: -1 inside, -1 handles, -1 defense
Gooden: same
Dalembert: same
Darko: +1 handles, +1 rebounding
Billy C: +1 inside, +1 defense
Battier: +1 handles
Jamison: -1 inside, -1 handles, -1 defense
Turk: -1 inside
Pettit: +1 outside
Salmons: -1 outside
Boykins: -1 inside, -1 rebounding
Lord: +1 outside, +1 handles, +1 defense

Impact changes: Lo hurt.  With the Miller trade I was counting on him for C minutes.  Now those might go to Darko, which is good that he improved in rebounding.  Jamison's drop also hurts, bigtime, as he was going to be my primary SF off the bench.  Disappointed in Turkoglu's development.  Boykins regressed, while I'm obviously very happy with Lord's development.  The gap has narrowed considerably and it looks like I found a replacement just in time, but Lord will come off the bench this year.

Ben Wallace: no change
William Headley: -1 Outside
Carmelo Anthony: -1 Inside
Vladimir Radmanovic: +1 Handling
Lavar Piatowski: no change
Anderson Varejao: -1 Handling
Stephen Jackson: no change
Benjamin Wolkowyski: +1 Inside, +1 Outside
Shaun Livingston: no change
Trenton Dench: no change
Kevin Cox: -1 Outsite, -1 Handling

Pretty uneventful TC for my team. Overall my team didn't change much, but all of my key players besides Swift saw no improvement and even losses... Ah well, I still predict domination :)

Jamaal Magloire -1 inside and rebounding rebounding hurt a little but he is still good enough for 13 and 10
Jason Collier -1 handles
Jeff Foster -1 inside
Jermaine O'Neal -1 outside
Blake Monroe +1 def and is now A pot he will get his chance this year
Ron Artest -1 handles
Randy Molina +1 pot
Shawn Marion -1 handles great that he kept his def
Rocky Elliott +1 inside and outside still an a pot he will be my starter this year
Derek Fisher +1 outside and -1 reb

i didn´t expect anyone to improve other than rocky. so i am very pleased that my big 3 stayed the same.

Chandler: -1 inside, -1 potential
Brown: +1 inside, -1 potential
Blount:-1 handling, -1 defense, -1 potential
Brand: +1 defense
Childress: +1 potential
Black: same
Maggette: -1 potential
House: same
Gordon: +1 handling
James: -1 defense, -1 potential
Fox: -1 defense
McCracken: -1 inside, -1 defense
Bee: +1 outside
Holston: -1 outside, -1 defense, +1 potential
THurmond: -1 outside, -1 defense

-15/+6 = -9

So not a great TC, but after all, the important players did good. So not much to worry about. Gordon is becoming more and more the point guard that I need. Brand's defense got up again! And Brown will be a tremendous inside scorer next to the scoring of Brand and Gordon!

Interesting TC for the Celtics. Overall i'd give it a B-

the big men:
Thomas lost inside and defense, gained pot
Duncan lost outside, won inside and handling
Booth lost rebounding and gained pot
Gasol is history
Stromile won rebounds lost pot
Strong as expected won pot (and improved big time, believe me, but not enough to get a ratings gain)
Evan Lo won outside and lost inside and will have a hard time cracking the rotation

backcourt:
Lenard lost defense but stayed the same otherwise
Jefferson is a mystery gaining on inside, handling and pot
Ginobili lost defense but gained both scoring ratings and pot
Tower won outside, lost pot
Billups lost inside, handling and defense
Alan Reed is notw an A handling PG
Otto Perry will give Reed a run for backup PG improving outside, handling and rebounding

Escamilla, Deandre, Shubert who cares now, they are looooongterm projects

one last thought:
because a guy lost or won a rating can mean he went from 75 defense to 74 or vice versa (or he could have went from 84 to 65). Billups for example improved 3 ratings last TC without a change to his stats (stayed at 48%, 8reb, 3to and 1.25pps, just took a little more shots), so i'm not really worried he lost exactly those 3 categories now

So don't take these ratings too seriously now, let them perform on the court first ...

well, in the german language, "gained" and "won" can be used as synonyms.

but on the other hand, isn't FBB more or less a lottery system when it comes to TC changing ratings ?
