Have fun, Earl, in the land of the magic dragon ... Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CelticsGM on September 19, 2005, 04:53:03 PM So this ends the career of Mr. Earl Watson in New England. About to become a fan favourite he'll surely be missed, but might get a fresh start with the rebuilding project in Pac Northwest, where his leadership will be needed much more.
He was a great backup for the Celtics and provided everything we asked him for here ... ... all 6 games he played for us. I want the pick over the 5th PG to man my roster and the Blazers can use a nice veteran backup with a wonderful salary, still courtesy of the Shaq fauxpas years ago, for rebuilding. Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: HornetsGM on September 19, 2005, 04:56:20 PM Is Watson worth a probable lotto pick? Probably not.
The Blazers went 2-5 this last sim. If that's an indication of what they are like w/o Randolf, then the pick could be really really high. Maybe they are hoping that their two picks this year will really boost them, but I find that to be unlikely. In general, if you are rebuilding, it's a good idea to hold on to your own draft picks. Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 04:57:54 PM Blazers, you never cease to amaze me. First that trade with the Lakers, which I still can't get over, and now this. I definitely remember asking you about my point guards. You immediately said you're not interested, just because you have Telfair. Now you go and trade a future lottery pick for Earl Watson. And it could be a high pick, now that you're Randolph-less. I gotta tell ya, I'm puzzled...

Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: GoldenStateGM on September 19, 2005, 04:59:48 PM Great deal for the Celtics, no matter what happens with the pick.
They still had 3 good points on the roster, and trading one of those points for a pick was great. Whether it is good for the Blazers depedns on this plan they have for this year... 20's pick for Watson, not bad... Lotto pick for Watson, very bad.... I didn't say it was this year's pick. They will have to get lucky in the draft and free agency in order to stay out of the bottom. Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: NetsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:01:30 PM particularly free agency. right now their team can't defend my grandmother, and nobody in the draft is going to change that.

Well you'll see next season if my risk was worthless or not, i know i can be screwed next season, but i also know i can have a team next season for high goals Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: KingsGM-old on September 19, 2005, 05:02:30 PM Quote from: HornetsGM Quote from: KingsGM Quote from: HornetsGM Is Watson worth a probable lotto pick? Someone might be very, very dissapointed. Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:04:00 PM And what's this whole risk business you speak of. Whether or not your good heart(with the generous donations you've made to the Boston and LA Basketball is our Future Foundation) will please the SSBA gods and lead your team to victory?
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: MavsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:04:18 PM Wow, your best defender at C and pf is B- good luck in FA.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: NetsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:05:05 PM Cavs: keep your personal trade discussions private.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:07:09 PM What I was talking about was from a week or two ago, this is just a surprise.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: NetsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:08:01 PM regardless, they were still private trade discussions.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: BlazersGM on September 19, 2005, 05:10:40 PM Cavs is just sad he didn't get, but yes i realized with this team i can't win, and yes i have 2 picks, one will be very high for sure, one probably also, and i'm hoping to catch something in FA, i took the risk, if i don't damn, if i do, great and i'll have a team that can compete for title, i know i could have probably get more, but it all doesnt matter,i have what i want and let's see.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CelticsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:11:12 PM Now people don't get overexcited.
Building around Telfair-Jackson-Cunningham with some more young guys and 2 high picks this year and 20mio cap space NO ONE can tell now where the Blazers 2010 will end ... But I don't think this group will be among the worst teams next year, otherwise this trade would be horribly onesided (and I have no intentions to do such, not in this league ...) Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:15:31 PM No problem, I will not speak about any private trade discussions.
But I'm still not sure what you mean when you talk about your risk. With that you must be implying a potential benefit for your team in the future. And I just don't see any possible benefit when simply giving away talent, including this trade and your previous one. Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: KingsGM-old on September 19, 2005, 05:22:52 PM Risk = Free Agency. Get it?
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:27:33 PM He didn't get an expirings in the Randolph trade!
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: BlazersGM on September 19, 2005, 05:30:38 PM i got jackson and a good pick, and little expiring and something more for next season
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: HornetsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:38:56 PM I think it's a risk in that if the pick isn't lotto then Watson will be better than the pick.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CelticsGM on September 19, 2005, 05:39:39 PM Quote from: BlazersGM i got jackson and a good pick, and little expiring and something more for next season  Keep cool, No need to get angry. This is a free discussion where everyone can state his opinion, as far off it may be. And never underestimate that trash talk is as much part of the game as anything ... 8) Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: BlazersGM on September 19, 2005, 05:51:02 PM It sure is a risk, and i took it :) ...........and Celtics, that devil face is just a joke, no anger inside Blazers GM :D
...at least my trades our very controversal and always make few pages of long discussion 8) Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: KingsGM-old on September 19, 2005, 06:01:25 PM Quote from: BlazersGM It sure is a risk, and i took it :) ...........and Celtics, that devil face is just a joke, no anger inside Blazers GM :D ...at least my trades our very controversal and always make few pages of long discussion 8) Sometimes i wonder do you have any family blood at all. Maybe you're adopted! Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 06:10:15 PM With these trades, I have no doubt...
 Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: KingsGM-old on September 19, 2005, 06:11:45 PM Yeah, wanted to say that myself. But i'm not sure you're the right guy to say that as well.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CelticsGM on September 19, 2005, 06:12:10 PM Quote from: CavsGM With these trades, I have no doubt... He talks about the ANGER, not the trades. The trades exactly follow family tradition ... Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: CavsGM on September 19, 2005, 06:14:59 PM I know what he was talking about. I was just saying my observation.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: MagicGM on September 19, 2005, 06:16:03 PM wow.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: NetsGM on September 19, 2005, 06:37:07 PM I just don't see the potential reward in trading a pick for Watson. 2 years ago I traded the 27th pick in the draft for Watson and Payton. Anything likely top 15 I think is too big of a risk to take for a backup with little reward.
Title: Blazers / Celtics Post by: SixersGM on September 19, 2005, 09:24:57 PM If you're rebuilding why do you value mediocre players and not your 1st rounders? I just dont see the point of doing the deal.
Like the previous trade, i just think that you could have gotten a better deal. Title: dfsdfsdf Post by: HeatGM on September 19, 2005, 10:57:54 PM Wowowee... a pick for watson? i basically gave watson to celtics in our trade...not worth the pick man...and potentially to become a lottery...
