Celtics win this year, but this deal is for next season. I had a tough decision this season on whether i was going to throw all my chips in and go for a 3-peat with my team and then go into a semi-rebuilding stage as I wait to get a cetner or wait for one to develop or get a new cetner so i can keep my chips in for years to come and that's the basis for this deal.

Kaman isn't a bad player, he can bang with the best of them and has years to improver whereas Booth already started declining in TC this year. Kaman is more of a scoring threat and has A- rebounding which is a rare commodity that only a few players in the league have. With this improved rebounding I can afford to get Curran more minutes as I'll need his A- defense more and his rebounding insn't as much of a liability. Kaman is having a career high in FG% this year and that's an area I've needed help with.

quick first take on this:
Calvin Booth is a guy that even if he does nothing more than replace Kaman's numbers will give Gasol so much more freedom that this deal should work for the Celtics. This is a 2-time SSBA champion which will provide great leadership.


And to be honest, I'm not completely over the disappointment now. But Booth' much better shooting percentage should make up for Damps better rebounding skills in the long run ...




Finally, I think Calvin is a cool name. I'll probably ask the Spurs about Kyle Hobson now so I can fulfill my dream and play a lineup with ...

one of the jazz's success is because of Calvin's presence downlow. And trading him is a no-no, IMO.

That's true, but he's trying to think for the future as well.

Jazz stated here that this is the end of their 3-peat quest. So they choose the future.


But since this deal is on the table for more than one and a half seasons now two facts are interesting here:
1. to accept the deal just NOW cost me a draft pick (which - through huge lottery luck - later turned out to be #3 Gregory Schabinger)
2. to accept the deal just NOW brought the Jazz a 2nd title which i don't think they would have won with Kaman (sorry, Chris)

Kaman is deteriorating. He's ratings and stats is awful. His contract is awful. In return he traded a good defensive C who has an expiring contract. At least with an expiring contract, he might have helped his future.

Good trade for the Cs. They got a good defensive center to help Pau.

Trying to trade a center like Booth for another center proved to be pretty difficult when I want to keep most of the rest of my team intact, so this was the next best thing...I think Kaman was a B+/B+ for def rebounding...now he's a B A- which doesn't mean he got worse...just means i better have talent to balance out his weaknesses which I have. Ratings wise +/- Kaman is +1. His contract wasn't much of an issue considering i'm going to be in a hole for some years to come and without strong draft picks, like i said in a previous post...it will come to haunt me soon when trying to develop a late-first round center or hold off with an MLE center like some other teams have done. Besides i feel I have a better chance of Kaman improving than I do of Booth not declining.

Well, I actually never completely understood Kaman. His rebounding skill is undeniable, his offense decent - sure, he won't command double teams as of now - but his defense is what puzzled me.

In the first sim with Pau it looked rock soild vs. the opponent C - but Pau stayed on the floor 10min less because of foul trouble. Just 19min vs. Zach, 17min vs. Duncan and 9min vs. Amare - this was his forth game for Pau against Amare this season and avg. 40mpg in the first three. My guess is, he might have to help way too much to cover for Kamans shortcomings on defense. I'll find out soon.

But the Jazz are right too about the future of Kaman. With more improvement definitely possible (just his last TC was below average, but he's just 25) this deal might help them in the longer run. It's worth the chance ...

As for Booth, he definitely has way more trade value then Kaman as I had to find out. And his expiring comes in handy too, so I get some extra benefit here as well.

JazzGM, could have dealt for Loren Woods perhaps. :D

He's still 29, while Kaman is 25. A- rebounding is still a rarer commodity than A- defense and keep in mind, Kaman has yet to get full starter minutes since his first year, so it's sitll up in the air on what all he can do at this point in his career. I have the other talent to absorb his weaknesses as I did when Booth played inside. During the Playoffs, Booth's numbers went down and he often played only 20 minutes which tells me that he wasn't the main factor why i was winning in the first place. Curran has developed nicely to fulfill some of those roles lost with Booth, yet this guy can score as well so i'm anxious to see what happens. This next sim will be tough to judge with kirilenko out, but there's lots of season left.

I agree Booth has strong trade value with his expiring contract, however, it was hard to trade him for a better center...and it was hard to define what was "better" when a lot of what booth does doesn't show up in stats.
