Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 01:27:23 PM There is, but we're going completely computer generated.
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: LakersGM-old on February 07, 2005, 01:28:32 PM Ok, just asking cuz its so confusing not knowing any of these guys.

This isn't meant to simulate the real league but to simulate running a team for a league. Not using real players forces you to look at ratings rather than names. Which is a good thing. In previous years we have done importing a file, 2 things have happened: 1) People bitch and moan because this guy and that guy isn't like they are in real life. Meanwhile, it's impossible to get everybody happy, and very time consuming. 2) People draft based on how the players are in real life, not how they are rated in this game. I've seen Devin Harris go top 5. Why? Because of his name. He was rated as C's across, the board, including potential. 3) A small issue of time. we sim 7-12 years in the time the NBA does 1. So, we'd be at around 2012 draft before the real nba got up to the 2005 draft. Talk about a problem. Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 02:24:03 PM If I get the first pick I'm taking this guy:
http://ssba.phillyarena.net/players/player178.htm Tell me he's not a player to build a team around. Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: LakersGM-old on February 07, 2005, 02:25:53 PM Haha He blows but he sure is as loyal as mans best friend.
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: LakersGM-old on February 07, 2005, 02:26:30 PM Im already ready for the draft, I get my top 6 choices at each position staked out already.

I noticed this earlier: draft picks' hometowns list specific teams. Any reason for this, or is just some kind of anomaly? This guy's hometown says "Knicks"; does this mean that's where he'd like to play? Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 02:31:29 PM I think it might affect his loyalty. As in if the Knicks offered him a contract he'd be "loyal" even though they're not his previous team.
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: RaptorsGM on February 07, 2005, 02:46:24 PM Man, I CAN'T wait for the draft. I'm just taking this year to give my young guys lots of touches.
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: HornetsGM on February 07, 2005, 03:13:55 PM WOW, there are some serious big men prospects in this draft
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 03:16:59 PM Yeah, there are a couple.
Only 1 or 2 pf's but a ton of c's. Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: CavsGM on February 07, 2005, 03:49:54 PM Players with expiring contracts...They can be re-signed if they don't have the bird years but the team is under the cap, right?
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: HornetsGM on February 07, 2005, 03:51:16 PM that's right
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 03:51:59 PM and if you don't have bird rights you can re-sign them for 120% (i believe that's the %) of their previous contract.
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: CavsGM on February 07, 2005, 04:03:25 PM I remember previously in this sim, if there was a player expiring that I did not have bird rights to, that player would automatically choose the option of going to free agency, because I couldn't re-sign him(I never had cap space before). So in the upcoming off-season, if I have a player that I do not have bird rights to, and I am under the cap, that player has the option of staying and giving me his asking salary?
Title: Sim 1 up next, Post your Depth Charts: Post by: NetsGM on February 07, 2005, 04:04:30 PM Yes. And players without bird rights can ask for extensions too, as I previously said, up to 120% of the previous salary.
