Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:08:27 PM Well well well.
It appears I found a flaw in the game. If you have cap room offered to multiple free agents, if they all decide on the same day, you can sign more than the caproom you have. For my example, I signed Earl Boykins for 14 million. That should have effectively taken away all my cap space. But I was still able to sign Salmons, Lo and Turkoglu (whom I had made offers for as failsafes if none of the big 3 signed). I'll have to add this to the rules page. It certainly would have altered my strategy had I known. I thought once your cap space is used, it's used. but it appears it can only go by how much cap room you had before that FA day. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:11:07 PM Poor Hawks. They signed NOONE. I thought for sure they had Pavel until Hornets came in with an outrageous 1 year deal.
Cavs got Vince literally at the last minute. Clippers owe me for delaying the sim, and Cavs owe the Clips for causing me to delay the sim. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: KingsGM-old on September 01, 2005, 09:13:10 PM I guess it's time for the rebuilding part

Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: BullsGM-old on September 01, 2005, 09:16:51 PM Got Juan Dixon with MLE again, not bad
I'm surprised McKie signed the LLE Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:21:11 PM Alright, as for me.
I'm VERY happy to welcome Earl as the new starting pg on the nets. Chauncey was amazing, but one of my few weaknesses last year were turnovers. Earl is the best ballhandler in the league and fills a BIG need. He'll help me reduce turnovers AND force turnovers. I was even last year on turnovers. I'm hoping to be +2 this year. Also, signed some very good bench players to longterm deals. That i'm also VERY happy about. Locked up trenton lo for a very reasonable salary (less than the MLE). He was tremendous last year off the bench, good shotblocker and rebounder. A little high priced, but all decent big men are. He's only 25. Locked up john salmons for 6 years at 3 mil per. Another EXCELLENT defender. His perimeter defense was actually better than Battier, which makes him great to switch between the 2 and 3. Having another shutdown defender at the swing positions is a great asset. Finally, Antonio Turkoglu. 1.5 mil/year for 3 seasons. Wanted 3 seasons because I wanted his bird years. I basically look at him as a late first round draft pick. If that A potential holds true, he could end up a B- B offensively with B+ defense, that would be great. Otherwise, it's a low risk. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:31:26 PM Ok, my day 2 offers have been submitted to HornetsGM.
Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: SunsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:37:26 PM I'm happy with what happened, As I alluded to earlier in another post, adding depth at my swing spots was a big priority, and I as able to get 3 guys who are either SG or SF
Rodney White is a solid B offensive player AND aB+ defender,he'll be productive off the bench. Fred Hoiberg and Dion Glover are both good outside shooters and Hoiberg is nice defensively and Glover isent too bad. so now i feel alright with my backcourt rotation with Barry,Stockton,Hoiberg,Glover,Hav,and Eisley and I have a player coming in a trade for my SF spot, and a good backup in White. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: RaptorsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:43:29 PM Wow...pretty damn THRILLED.
Am I the only one to think Jackson Finley could be really, really good? And Mckie for the MLE? Whoa. Didn't see that coming. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:47:12 PM Damn, hadn't even noticed you're the one who got Finley.
I offered him a 6 year deal at 4 million per year. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: Anonymous on September 01, 2005, 09:47:36 PM Quote from: RaptorsGM Wow...pretty damn THRILLED. How sick would that be. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: RaptorsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:49:36 PM Wait, WHAT? You offered him 6 years at 4 per year, and I got him for 1 year at 4.5?

that was heartbreaking last time. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: BucksGM on September 01, 2005, 09:53:09 PM I retained Donta Smith; he left longer and considerably more lucrative deals on the table. For the 3rd straight year, Sampson took my LLE
Collier left to a bigger deal but I had already acquired Ferry. And some of my MLE targets took other MLEs. Ferry Okur Donta Kobe Nash Should be competitive. Gotta see what's out there for the MLE now. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: SonicsGM on September 01, 2005, 09:54:06 PM Quote from: RaptorsGM Quote from: NetsGM yup. lol. nice post. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: GoldenStateGM on September 01, 2005, 10:21:11 PM Thrilled to get Ruffin for the MLE... He is actually a natural PF, and will be a perfect back-up for Swift. Played quite well as a back-up last year for the Clippers.
Had Jackson Finley as my LLE Poor Hawks, it just does not seem fair... They had better offers for some of the players that signed elsewhere... Some much better then the ones offered. Lavar is a major pick up for me at the 2, he will be my backup for sure. He was my #1 target this offseason. Here is my strategy for Pavel: the guy has a huge loyalty rating, and I feel like it was just bad luck that he didn't offer me a decent contract; I think that it's just a matter of time before he offers me a decent deal. Therefore, I offer him an "outrageous" 1 year deal with the belief that he will come around. Furthermore, if someone is looking to dump an aging vet for an up and comer, well, Pavel is available... I am surprised that the Clipps didn't sign Piatowski. I'll likely make a move for a PF. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: ClippersGM-old on September 02, 2005, 07:08:34 AM Finley, Ruffin, Piatkowski... seems like my players are welcomed with open arms around the league.
To be honest, I learned a lesson from the Finley-thing. I wanted to re-sign him, but his contract did not allow me to offer him a lot. So now I know I can change 2nd year contracts for 2nd round draft picks. That would have been a big difference. Though I realize (too late) that I could have given him the MLE. Too late, too bad.... good luck to Finley on his new team. Majorly happy to re-sign Gordon. Him and Childress are the future here in LA. Both great scorers with A defense and potential. I really like some of the signings: Chamberlain for the Cavs, Finley for the Raps, Boykins for the Nets, Sampson for the Bucks, Piatkowski for the Hornets.... Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 02, 2005, 08:04:08 AM Quote from: HornetsGM Quote from: NetsGM and by far the worst record. repeat? Didn't the Hawks have the worst record in the league last year? God, am I happy to have Earl. I think now I should obviously still be able to win rebounding. but now I should be able to win the turnover battle. I should be able to make more three's. I should be able to win bench production, and I should be able to shoot better from the field. Welcome Earl, to the long list of Nets pg's. Chauncey was great, and at 2 years started by far the longest. Nets starting pg's: Jason Kidd (never played) Leandro Barbosa (2005) Antonio Daniels (2006) Earl Watson (2006) Gary Payton (2006) Chauncey Billups (2007-2008) Earl Boykins (2009-?) Looking at my past, I loved ballhandler's. Sebastian Telfair (http://ssba.phillyarena.net/files/oldleague/players/player223/htm) started all my tenure in the old league, and was basically a better ballhandling Boykins, with much better defense but less offense. Then I had Daniels, whom I regret giving up. Last year I went after Chamberlain, who wasn't nearly as good as boykins (offensively, defensively, and less of a ballhandler). I'm quite happy to have Earl, indeed. I mean, here I am, every year (except this one) stumbling around at the SG position and there is Piatowski who was MY player, on a different team because I couldn't offer him enough. Same with Bradley Bee. Hell, I lucked out on Lovelette, Celtics offered him more. And I am just so thrilled to get Finley. PF was a huge hole for me after trading Mihm, but I just found my starter, likely, depending on TC. I really feel like I just got a lottery pick. Where would he have gone in the lotto....top 5? And this really, really helps me out with FA next year...I could have 9-10 mil in cap space with a starting C, PF, SF and PG already. I felt with the deep FA class at pg that I could get a capable backup. Speedy Claxton for the MLE fits my need...although Benoit was my first choice. I guess that Benoit being a San Antonio home boy wasn't enough to sway him....so much for hometown being a big factor in loyalty. I now have 14 players signed and am not sure if I will offer the LLE to anyone. Remember Chris Mihm? http://ssba.phillyarena.net/files/oldleague/players/player263.htm Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: RaptorsGM on September 02, 2005, 10:07:37 AM Quote from: NetsGM Hahaha. Remember Chris Mihm? http://ssba.phillyarena.net/files/oldleague/players/player263.htm Do I ever. A+ defense with B potential. Ha, I love it. 25.4, 13.1 and 3.3. Look at that amazing contract too. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: MagicGM on September 02, 2005, 10:09:27 AM jeez.. I miss Henson, Boris and Q.. :D
Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: OldNuggetsGM on September 02, 2005, 11:07:30 AM Quote from: NetsGM Poor Hawks. They signed NOONE. I thought for sure they had Pavel until Hornets came in with an outrageous 1 year deal. Cavs got Vince literally at the last minute. Clippers owe me for delaying the sim, and Cavs owe the Clips for causing me to delay the sim. So somebody owes me for losing Boykins then, as it appears he would've been back had Nets not delayed the sim. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 02, 2005, 11:09:33 AM Yup, because had I not delayed the sim, I would have probably gotten Gordon.
So, in essence: Losers: Hawks, Nets, Nuggets Winners: Clippers, Cavs Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: OldNuggetsGM on September 02, 2005, 11:53:29 AM Quote from: NetsGM Well well well. When you say alter the rules page, you mean outlawing this in the future, right? I can think of multiple ways that this can be abused. The only way to make sure it doesn't happen is to only allow teams with cap room to make 1 offer. That's not fair. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 02, 2005, 11:56:19 AM unfortunately there's no way for me to outlaw this. it's the way the game's programmed.
How free agency works is I enter in all the bid information. Then when everything's entered, I hit "Run FA Decisions". There's no step that allows me to decline, edit, or monitor transactions. One second all bids are entered an no decisions made. Next second all decisions are made. Nothing inbetween. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: BullsGM-old on September 02, 2005, 12:34:08 PM Nets, how can you consider yourself a 'loser' (on the same scale as the Hawks and Nuggets, who really got screwed) on the assumption that Gordon would have signed with you? Theres no way of knowing that
You had one of the better first days in Free Agency, comparing it to the Hawks is ridiculous Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: MavsGM on September 02, 2005, 12:35:59 PM Hey Nuggets, what contract did you offfer Boykins?
Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: RaptorsGM on September 02, 2005, 12:39:13 PM WOW.
The Nuggets are RIGHT ON the cap number. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: MavsGM on September 02, 2005, 12:39:32 PM With one roster space left, Mavs got Evan Eschmeyer with MLE. He is a vet and knows how to win in the playoffs. Won a championship with the Jazz last year. I'm done with FA, waiting for TC and sim one.
Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: OldNuggetsGM on September 02, 2005, 01:25:45 PM Quote from: MavsGM Hey Nuggets, what contract did you offfer Boykins? since it doesn't matter anymore, 3 years and 33 million. somebody may have trumped me besides Nets, but I doubt it based on previous cap situations. btw, I fully expected to lose Boykins; it was losing Vince that shocked me. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: KingsGM-old on September 02, 2005, 01:27:46 PM Oh mine, i didn't even realize you lost both of them. You have no backourts whatsoever! That really sucks.
Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: NetsGM on September 02, 2005, 01:30:02 PM Bulls: I said I was a loser in the delaying the sim move. I didn't say I was a loser on the first day of free agency.
Delaying the sim was bad for me. The results of the delayed sim were still good. Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: HornetsGM on September 02, 2005, 02:15:26 PM Quote from: NetsGM found it. this save is right at day 1 of the 2006 season. Right when Jem quit and Twan took over (it was the file I was going to re-start that league with, if we chose to do so). http://ssba.phillyarena.net/files/oldleague/ (NOTE: it's now finished). Man, this was right before I got Ben Wallace in a trade... Here was my DC after: Ben Wallace: C D C- A+ A- C Amare Stoudamire: B+ C- D A- A- Glenn Robinson: B A- C A- C Jason Richardson: B A C+ A- C Jamal Crawford: C A- B+ A- D+ Off the bench- Eric Dampier: B- C- D- A- B+ Keith Van Horn: B B C- B- C+ Sean Dockery: C- A C B C I won the last championship in that league, and I was due for a couple more I think. Oh well.... Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: CavsGM on September 02, 2005, 07:39:22 PM Ah, brings back a lot of memories...

Title: Day 1 Free Agency Results Post by: RaptorsGM on September 03, 2005, 11:00:20 AM Bods didn't get to it last night, so he'll get to it today.
