Title: Mock Draft 2009
Post by: GoldenStateGM on August 24, 2005, 10:23:50 AM
The first attempt...  let's go through the top 5...  edited, due to the Pistons trade into the top 5.

1. Cavaliers - Vince Keogan.  No doubt.  Likely to be a top 10 scorer his first year.  Could end up being the best offensive player in the game.  Perfect player to begin a rebuild.

2. Pistons - Stan Manning.  The guess with the Pistons is still Stan Manning.  Pistons got younger with the trade of Nash and Tinsley, and Manning would be a nice PF next to Doleac, and make up for Ferry's missing scoring. If Wells is chosen, look for Dunleavy or RJeff to be moved.

3. New York Knicks - Russel Houbregs - This one is tough.  If Manning is available, this is a no brainer.  But with Manning off the table, it gets tough.  Knicks are set at PG and SG, with Miles and Crawford, and have needs at all other positions.  Russel is an excellent offensive SF with an A potential.  If Wells is chosen, look for Crawford or Wells to be on the trading block.  Neither has the size to play SF.

4. Hawks - Trevor Wells - Hawks would love Wells to fall to them.  Wells is a nice all-around scoring SG with decent to good defense and a good handle.  He would look quite good next to Del Negro.  Newton is also a possibility here, if Schenk is not the answer at PG.

5. Trailblazers - Matthew Marion - get your shooting guards while they are hot.  Set at the point with Telfair, PF with Zach, the Blazers have needs at SG, SF, and center.  Marion is an excellent SG prospect, loaded with potential. And his excellent ball handling will help Telfair in the backcourt.   Although with a new GM, anything is possible.  :D

Stan Manning at 2nd? Only C potential and B- defense?

I tihnk Manning is worth a second pick with his A- Inside. Not sure if Houbergs is worth a third though.

He is only 20, so he could improve.  Not a huge fan of his myself, but he could be an incredible offensive force.  That C outside and C handle should not be overlooked.
Likely a 20-25 ppg scorer, with 3-4 assists, if he can stay out of foul trouble.

20-25?

He could drop 25-30.

Looks like an Exact Oscar Ferry clone, just with less defense.

Tanner Houbregs, a player of mine, said that his brother(Russell Houbregs) would not sign for the team that would draft him.

Instead, he would be opting to play for the sixers.

Could...  But I doubt a 20 year old rookie with B- defense will get anymore then 26-30 mpg...
He could be very close to Gasol, actually, without the defense...

It's really tough with the 4th pick.  The top 3 players are pretty much obvious, but the 4th best player in the draft is very hard to tell.  This is gonna take a little bit to figure out what I really want to do with this pick.  I might surprise some people with the guy who I think I might want with the 4th pick.
