Title: Sim 12 Discussion
Post by: KingsGM-old on August 14, 2005, 05:11:49 PM
Last sim of the season. Very important one for couple of teams. Please. Kings, Jazz, Nuggets and Wariorrs in dead race for home court in the first round. Lord. Phoenix, Seatlle, Minny and Grizzlis in a huge batlle for the last 2 spots. No. Still waiting for my first 50 wins season and i'm willing to risk any injuries to achieve that so i'm going the last sim with full strenght. Injuries. But the main mission is to avoid Nuggets or the defending champs Jazz in the first round. With couple of more wins i think i can do that.

Good luck to you all!

I'm gonna go 0-7, obviously.

Nate Lovelette as a #1 option

Damnit. How the hell does Phoenix burst in the last sim with a 6-0 to make the playoffs? When the trade went through it was the 5th pick, now it's the 17th. Disgusting. I'm hoping to get some luck and land the 1st pick with the Spurs.

Very disappointing consecutive 3-2 sims to end the season.  1 point losses to the cavs and Celtics.  hopefully the playoffs go a little better for me.

Face the Wizards, who I was 2-2 against.  They did well against me defensively, although Pettit went crazy in the 3 games he did play against them (34 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 4 apg, 53% shooting, 43.4% 3pt).  One of my 2 losses did come when Barbosa and MacLean were my starting frontcourt, so hopefully I can pull this one through.

Congrats to Emeka for DPOY!

Also got 2nd team all-league.  1st team defense.  Sammy got 2nd team defense at center.

Somehow, Pettit (30 pts, 7 boards, 4 assists, A defense) can't even crack all league 3rd team ?  Larry Hughes?  Are you kidding?

another losing sim, what's new.  But hey, I hope to be rolling out the red carpet for Vince Keogan soon.

Yeah man, Keogan could be the best scorer in the league.  If he ends up A- A offensively, wow.  He could eclipse Pettit very shortly.

Well, the whole leaving the starters off the depth chart thing kinda backfired for me, as most of them played.

Another thing I forgot about is that their stats would drop so much. Didn't matter though, as Yao was MVP and 1st team, and Peja was first team for a 2nd straight year.

Lost Springs for the playoffs, which sucks, so I guess it's up to House.

Also had Allen Austin as my starting PF and he never played.

Can't wait for the playoffs to start. I get the Bucks, who I went 3-1 against.

Yao should dominate Collier.

Okur vs. Mihm is an intriguing matchup, they should offset each other with Mihm having a slight shot blocking and rebounding edge.

I expect Peja to handle Smith.

Kobe may have his way with House.

Baron vs. Tinsley will be interesting.

I say Raptors in 5.

No, he didn't start, because you never specified who would take his place on the IL.  In fact, had I used up all the players you had in your depth chart, I would have had to put some of your big 4 on the IL, and obviously you didn't want that.

The last sim of the season.... it ends horribly, I go 0-4, get the Nets for the Playoffs and Iverson gets injured, how great... , what perfect timing for him.

So 2nd year in a row with the top record in the SSBA, 2nd year in a row with 61 wins.

It's going to be interesting with the Pacers-Magic matchup. If I make it past the first round I will have to face one of those 2.

Wow man, that's rough.  almost as rough luck as your injury history.

Must suck knowing Andrew Sedran, Nate Lovelette and Richard Buckner knocked you out of the playoffs, on your home court.

The rest of the sim was pretty good for you.

i don't know if I'd call it costing you the season as much as I'd call it costing you an extra sim on Tuesday and likely out at the hands of Toronto.

Instead I'll take your place, which suits me just fine.  More importantly, Cavs finished tied for 6th worst record, so I'll be able to add something nice next offseason.

Yeah man I know.  Now I know NEVER to give up on a season.  About 3/4 of the season, I pretty much 'gave up' in the sense that I wanted to lose more than I wanted to win.  I had my pick this year and I wanted it to be high, so I didn't play around with my settings at all and let my team play fairly poorly.  Two sims ago, I changed my settings to optimize Mercer's skill set and boom, my team plays amazing.  Too little too late though, Mercer and the rest of the team played good, but not good enough.

The Raptors loss was shocking, my big 3 played great but the rest of the team stunk it up.

There is no grey area this season for me, I either wanted to bomb and get a top 5 pick, or make the playoffs.  I know I would have lost oto the Raptors, but I don't think it would have been an embaressing sweep, I beat him without Pierce in one of the earlier sims

Well, I am happy with the sim...  I never expected to get home court, and finishing 6th in the division, tied record-wise for 5th, without Araujo, well, that is fantastic.  And going 12-10 without Araujo gives me some serious hope...

Facing the Kings now...  And Marbury is out for the 1st three days, so this should be interesting...  Gives me a chance to take away homecourt advantage, until Marbury recovers...

Congrats to Hinkle, for taking the free throw shooting title this year.

However, the end of season awards I am highly dissappointed in.  No freakin way Shaq is in before Araujo, that had better be due to his injury.

Still hoping that Hinrich makes it up there one day...  he has the stats and the abilities, I am sure he got some votes this year.

Jazz had a horrendous sim...Booth has a 20 point, 23 rebound game, but other than that..Daniels will now have a starting job and hopefully, like before, that'll be enough spurt to get these guys roaring again.

it seem there is also a pacer bug. for the third season in a row i can´t get injury free into the POs...damm
lost JO and Fisher for around 10 days and lost my third place.
Jamison is a scoring machine ... without JO he was 3 times the leader of the team.
i will have to find a very tricky lineup to beat the Magic .. a great first round matchup imo.

What a perfect sim and seson this could have been...

Went 5 - 1. Tmac droped 52 and everyone else played their role. Gooden, James and Miller all had very good sim.

50 W season and 3rd place Western. Facing the GoldenState in the first round. And then Marbury went down for 3 days. Just great, deja vu. Who's gonna play my god damn PG?? I had to change everything now, my DC, scoring options....but it's all my fault...Fuck me and my 50 wins chase, shoulda have placed all of my starting five on the injured list.

set the team record for blocks per game for the 2nd straight year (in fact, I believe I'm the only one to ever average more than 9 bpg, and I've done it 2 straight years).

Okafor still the player with the most career double-doubles.  Dalembert with the most career blocks.

The seeds are planted for next season.  Parker-Arenas-Russell make a great 3 offensive option.

Parker 18 - 4.5 - 6.9  52% fg, 62% 3pt
Arenas 25 - 4.5 - 4.0  53% fg  40.5% 3pt
Russell 13 - 5.6 - 4.4  40% fg  44% 3pt

Etan Thomas put up 20 pts & 15 boards.

I have two areas that need improvement and hopefully will have a decent TC (my last 3 have been mediocre at best: +2, +2, -1 as a TEAM).

Russell got cheated out of ROY....and not even by who I would have thought (Schabinger) but instead by Gatling.  Obviously the position you are drafted in plays a large part in who wins the award.

Offseason is a breeze when you have only 1 FA with high loyalty, no cap space and no draft picks.

Don't be so sure. You're team is much, much younger. One season here and there doesn't make alot of diference. You'll have plenty of chances in the future. My team on the other hand is pretty old. Any major injurie could be fatal cause my window is closing fast. Think about that

Gatling  2 player of game, 1 double double, 1 rookie of month

Russell  5 player of game, 3 double doubles, 2 rookie of month...not to mention more steal, more blocks, less fouls.

Obviously gatling isn't going to win POTG when he's playing with KG.  He's also not going to get double digit rebounds as a 2 guard.  Also, they were equal on steals.  with gatling having much better steal/to and a/to than Russell.  Gatling also played better defense.

Sorry spurs, I just don't see it.  Russell was good, gatling was better.

And part of it has to be about helping your team.

When I think of the ROTY, I think of the MOST VALUABLE ROOKIE. And that would be Gatling over Russel, who helped his team to a last place finish.

And give Russell a player like KG and see how much better his team does.  Russell also was the top option for the majority of the year....a lot more pressure than having a top 5 player paving the way for you like Gatling had.  Did Gatling lead the Wolves to a better record than last year......

Does anyone see the similarity between this argument and the KG/TD MVP argument in the NBA?

But Russell was a primary option thus more ball handling...so of course more turnovers.  And passing to KG should always make it easier to get assists then passing to Hobson & Nesterovic.

Your argument is slightly flawed in that Russel was a top option and scored 14 ppg on 42% while Gatling, who wasn't a top option scored 20 on 44%.

Yeah, I wouldn'be using the fact that he was a #1 option as a reason he should win the award.  Doesn't the fact that he scored only 13 ppg on bad % prove that he's not capable of being a #1 option?

I brought up the steals because you said he had more steals than gatling.   They both had 1.1 per game.

Gatling won it fair and square, IMO.

The primary option also usually draws more defensive attention...I have noticed several players shoot better percentages when they drop down from a higher to lower option.  Also the top option shouldn't necessarily be your best scorer but your best person at getting the offense to work.  Gatling shot better from the floor but worse from the arc & FT line....again Raptors your picking & choosing the stats you want to use.  A large part of the scoring differential can be attributed to Gatling jacking up almost 5 more shots per game....in fact he shot almost as much as Garnett and far more than the 3rd player in shot attempts.  Russell was also hurt by Arenas' arrival on the Spurs as he took away many of his shot attempts.

As far as the steals I was looking at the stats thru 11 sims and Russell had a very slight advantage: 1.1 vs 1.04

Mainly I was bored at work this morning and felt like getting involved in a give-and-take discussion.  You know sometimes I get that way from the BBS, Nets.  In many ways it's fun to see what other people think and if they can support their thoughts logically.

Now things are picking up and I need to stop padding my post totals.

IMHO it could have gone either way.  And I believe the edge went to Gatling for 2 reasons...he was the #1 overall pick and he played for a winning team.  I'm not upset like the Kings (j/k) would be..... 8)

Can't wait to see what the Bucks have in store.

Well since I'm the biggest playoff underdog in SSBA history, I had to do some tinkering.  You'll likely know right away what it was when we see the first box scores, but I'll probably discuss it further in the Round 1 discussion after the sim is done.
