With my big money, I look to get 1 top guy and 2 or 3 2nd tier players.  But it's hard to get people to come to the ATL, money is all I have to offer.

Alan Henderson is on the market.

Well, I hate to break this to all of you...

Howard Eisley is off, I repeat, off the market as of today.

You will have to wait for Deng's decision however.

But yes, Howard Eisley will return to the Sonics.  I hope you are all prepared for this IR dwelling individual.

this class seems to have dropped a lot.  With Hoffa, Smith, Livingston, Telfair and a lot of the big guys off the market this FA class isn't so appealing anymore, also there's nobody that i'm going to grossly overpay to get now because of my low win rating

Teams with caproom.
Team (win rating): Amt entering draft - draft picks = est amount entering fa
Hawks (25): $28,504,957 - $2,718,403  (#4 pick) = $25,786,554
Cavs (38.): $28,003,629 - $2,457,221 (#9 pick) - $2,888,256 (#1 pick) - $2,133,177 (#16 pick) - (3x$332,817) = $19,526,524
Nets (68.): $14,714,274 - $332,817 = $14,381,457
Nuggets (52): $10,977,642 - $1,928,223 (#21 pick) - $332,817 = $8,716,602
Heat (46): $10,197,194 - $1,967,571 (#20 pick) = $8,229,623
Lakers (33): $7,849,703 - $2,558,540 (#7 pick) - $332,817 = $4,958,346
Bulls (38.): $6,978,947 - $2,359,915 (#11 pick) = $4,619,032
Bucks (40): $4,223,256 - $2,830,491 (#2 pick) - $332,817 = $1,059,948
Blazers (34): $4,181,123 - $2,664,035 (#5 pick) - $332,817 = $1,184,271

Looking that over I have by far the best win rating.  The Nuggets have 2 free agents they have to re-sign, you figure one of them will be taken off the market and eat up thaht cap room.  that pretty much leaves me with 2 teams whose win ratings don't even add up to mine as the only ones with max room.

God, Gordon would look tremendous as my starting pg ;)

If i don't get him, i'll probably look to add maybe one or two other smaller guys, then just re-sign my own.

Last year you came very, very close to losing Battier, and did lose out on Chamberlain...  We shall see if your strategy finals pays off or finally bites you in the ass....

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: NetsGM on August 24, 2005, 09:09:20 AM
I think I actually made an offer to chamberlain.  a multi-year offer, that was lower than the MLE.  I just lowballed him, and he signed elsewhere.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: GoldenStateGM on August 24, 2005, 09:13:56 AM
You did make an offer, for about 3 million per year, if I remember correctly..  But since you lowballed him, you lost him...
The PG's available are just incredible....

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: NetsGM on August 24, 2005, 09:18:50 AM
that's because there seems to be about 30 incredible pg's in the league, lol

29 mil in cap space. Ooo yeah, this is gonna be good....

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...

This will be the year that we find out if win rating actually means anything.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: HawksGM on August 25, 2005, 12:44:30 PM
yea definitely, I don't know who the Cavs plan on going after, but I think that one of us will be in a good shape to re-build and the other will have to wait a year.  If Gordon signs with anyone but Clippers or Nets it will be shocking to me.  Obviously I will give him the max and if he signs with me I will be happy, but I don't expect him to.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: CavsGM on August 25, 2005, 12:54:13 PM
I think we both can end up being very pleased with the outcome. There are plenty of good players out there, and very few other teams with significant cap space.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: RaptorsGM on August 25, 2005, 12:57:02 PM
Which means that there will be alot of good MLE sigings.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: HawksGM on August 25, 2005, 01:01:02 PM
Yea we could both, and yea I think a couple players will end up choosing the MLE over some of my offers, but I think that we might end up going after 1 or 2 of the same players, but o well, hopefully not too many guys take the MLE too early.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: HornetsGM on August 25, 2005, 01:35:56 PM
someone could easily sweep Billups out from under your feet Nets, and leave you without a point guard.
Some teams have enough cap space to offer him a large deal and offer the max to someone else.
I have to admit, that would make me happy  :)

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: GoldenStateGM on August 25, 2005, 01:55:02 PM
Do not forget about Battier as well ;)
This is the year we see if the strategy pays off...
next year, when Pettit gets the max, no more cap room...

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: CavsGM on August 25, 2005, 01:56:48 PM

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: NetsGM on August 25, 2005, 02:13:19 PM
You guys are assuming I won't offer billups a contract first day, i don't know why.

I'm gonna offer battier and billups day 1 contracts, and just hope gordon signs before them.

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: GoldenStateGM on August 25, 2005, 02:16:26 PM
You say that...
But we all know you like to play everyone

We shall see...  Last year you really wanted Chamberlain...

Title: Oncoming Free Agency...
Post by: NetsGM on August 25, 2005, 02:19:10 PM
I only wanted Chamberlain because I thought I could get him cheap.

Last year I had just over 10 million in cap room.  I offered Battier 7 million for 1 year (because I wanted room for this year), and chamberlain 3 mil a year starting for a multi-year contract.

But I did offer Battier a day 1 contract, he just didn't accept it until day 2.

Haha.

Actually, I'll probably offer everyone multi-year deals this year, and bow out of free agency next year.

My heart couldn't take the draft next year knowing that 3 of my 5 starters, and cornerstone of my team, were all entering free agency.

Besides, the only way I could enter FA with money is if I turn down an offer to Pettit (or he doesn't offer me one).  And turning down one of Pettit's offers would be suicide.

I have been planning for next year's FA class ever since I had 8 draft picks in the first draft.    :D   Using my expirings to help others get cap space may pay off better than actually going into FA.

BTW Cavs 8 draft picks in one draft doesn't necessarily mean a lot....even if it is considered a deep draft like the first draft.

Actually that is the only trade I regret...especially since he kept improving.   :?

However looking at the picks you have 6 or 7 of them could be playoff teams and then you will have a bunch of picks in the late teens/early twenties.

You never know what will happen in two years. Things could get mixed up, good teams aren't the good teams forever you know.
