I will post this in the Cuts/Signings forum.

~bods. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: SonicsGM on August 02, 2005, 08:31:21 PM Sonics agree. I get my big man for a bunch of expiring parts and a very good pick.
The lineup now: Ilgauskas / Finley Collison / Boykins Deng / Dickau Kundla / Diddle English / Blake I love this deal. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: CavsGM on August 02, 2005, 08:40:59 PM Alright Sonics. Z has been with me twice, and now he's with you for the 2nd time around. We're even... 8)
So the rebuilding process has begun. Right now I'm set with likely two top five picks in this years draft, a bunch of future picks, and a whole lot of cap space for this coming off-season. Z is an excellent player, but the contract is just sickening. And I wanted some breathing room. I think I got fair value for him, though. Smith is a pretty good player, and the two picks are great. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: SonicsGM on August 02, 2005, 08:43:30 PM Yeah, Z led the Sonics to the Finals in SSBA season one. Here's hoping to another run in this or next year.
Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: HornetsGM on August 03, 2005, 01:48:50 AM I guess with the Collison signing, and the upcoming Deng signing, this makes sense for wins sake, but that contract is just ghastly for a team that is as promising as the Sonics. A cap slip here and a cap slip there goes a long way.

All of my youngsters have high loyalty marks, and I will stop at nothing to resign them all. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: JazzGM-old on August 03, 2005, 02:28:48 AM I think the Sonics already got all the youth they need to build a team, I think someone like Ilgauskas is needed to bring them all together and provide some surefire talent while the younger guys mature into their starting positions.

I completely agree. They were almost there last year with Shaq and now have taken the next step with more mature youngsters and some veteran assistance too (Collison is 26 and already the 2nd oldest player now). But i'm still not sure if giving up veterans Ostertag AND Smith might not haunt the Sonics later, especially if 31yr old Z would get injured (he's been pretty injury-free in SSBA so far) And don't forget, they lose their best 3pt shooter in Smith, too  Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: NetsGM on August 03, 2005, 09:19:28 AM Quote But i'm still not sure if giving up veterans Ostertag AND Smith might not haunt the Sonics later, especially if 31yr old Z would get injured (he's been pretty injury-free in SSBA so far) Hopefully now they can get Boykins some time, who could be an offensive force. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: CelticsGM on August 03, 2005, 09:30:02 AM Oh yeah, I almost forgot the forgotten man.
So maybe, just maybe we'll get a sighting of pick # 2 soon ... Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: SonicsGM on August 03, 2005, 02:32:28 PM Joe Smith was too good not to play, and Boykins is too good to sit on the bench like Darko.
Passing up the chance to deal three veterans on the decline for a stud center would have been stupid. Trade on hold. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: CavsGM on August 05, 2005, 06:39:59 AM Not really. In the Hornets deal, I do a 4 for 3. Then I have 14 on my roster. Cut Battie, now I have 13. Here I gain two, making me at 15...What's the problem???

According to my sheet, these would be your (16) players after both deals: 271 Greg Ostertag 570 Ethan Fletcher 255 Malik Rose 338 Kurt Thomas 403 Joe Smith 223 Jalen Rose 254 Benjamin Piatkowski 358 Grant Nesterovich 513 Mickael Pietrus 213 Gordan Giricek 266 Brent Barry 395 Fred Hoiberg 56 Dawson Wooden 100 Garrett Ward 545 Andre Miller 579 Jeff McInnis didn't re-check that, but hope that helps ... Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: NetsGM on August 05, 2005, 07:43:29 AM You had 15 players.
You cut 1, that leaves you with 14 Lamar Odom for McDyess/McInnis (+1) puts you back at 15. McDyess, Elson, George for Rose, Thomas (-1) puts you at 14. you need 2 roster spots for this trade. Title: Cavs/Sonics Trade - on hold Post by: CavsGM on August 05, 2005, 07:58:23 PM Wow, missed that completely. For some reason I thought that in the Hornets trade overall I give up one more player then I recieve but it's really just a 3 for 3. Stupid mistake. I'll now cut Fred Hoiberg to make the room.
