The 29th pick in the draft has a starting salary of 1.642 million increasing for 4 guaranteed years. The 30th pick in the draft has a starting salary of .332817 million for 2 years. That makes the 30th pick significantly more valuable than the 29th pick. To counteract that, for the benefit of getting a lower initial starting salary you have trouble in 2 years if the pick breaks out (you'll have, at the MINIMUM, the MLE to offer them after that). You're just like any other team that would try to sign him in free agency.
