Title: For Free Agency
Post by: NetsGM on May 03, 2005, 07:57:34 PM
What I will do, the day before each FA day I will submit my FA offers to HornetsGM via PM's.  I will do this immediately after the prior day has been run, before I receive anyone elses FA offers for that day.  This way, I will not have the added advantage of knowing everybody's offers, and somebody accusing me of using that information to cheat and "one-up" winning offers.

That's about as fair of a way as I can think of.

Sure, pick the Hornets over me and the Suns.  :bounce: - unrealted emoticon.

Just kidding, of course.

Sounds pretty fair to me. Cause I was gonna accuse you of cheating. But now I can't.

can't wait for what that greedy guy will be asking...

I can't wait. Hopefully Andre doesn't ask for a ridiculous contract, and that I can re-sign Prince for a reasonable amount.

BTW, I have a small question regarding the FA period. With signing your own player(when over the cap, player with less than three bird years), you can offer anything up to 120% of previous salary as the staring amount for his new contract? So, for example, I have Jamal Mashburn(0 bird years currently, 6.5 mil contract) who will be an upcoming FA. During free agency, I can offer him a contract for any number of years, with any starting amount going up to 7.8 million(120% of 6), correct? I've read the rules, just trying to make clear of things. Thanks a lot.

I think that's correct, but only 6 years. You have to have bird rights for 7 years.

But don't take my word for it, read through the rules until you find it. I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

Wait, so I can offer Ostertag like 5 million for a number of years without even having 3 bird years? This is completely new to me, I had no idea  :(

Yessity yes yes ya yes yes. I just re-signed Miller and Prince to perfect contracts.

Post by: BullsGM-old on May 04, 2005, 10:13:39 PM
Well, at least Dunleavy made it easy for me, he didn't offer me a contract at all

I got Skita for under 600,000 which is pretty good considering he made 4 mill last year and he still has A potential.

Resigned Claxton for the same contract he had now...

Looking forward to seeing who goes on the market for sign and trades...

Less worth it then JRich was last year...

So how do you guys like the new system?

IMO, this gives you more information than last year (get to see it broken down into the value for every year), and in a much better format.

For me, it saved me a world of time, probably at least an hour.  But in future years, where I don't have to code the authentication system, it will take me probably a third of the time it took me last year :)

Knowing how to program has its advantages.

Let me know if there are any issues with the new system.  I think I checked all the links to make sure I had the values correct, but I could have made a mistake.

No issues at all, worked like a charm...

Was hoping Jaric would offer a low contract, but he is a greedy guy....

I liked the chart.

With the Skita signing, I'll have about 13 mill in cap this offseason, hopefully I can do some damage.

Ok, so, Nets, when you get reponses, are you going to post them?

Or will you be posting all of them at the same time?

Because I'm ready to start working on my offers now, I just have to wait to see who is gonna be available.

Title: For Free Agency
Post by: NetsGM on May 04, 2005, 10:34:54 PM
I probably won't start posting them until tomorrow.

Got other stuff to do the rest of the night (like eat, heh).

GoldenState: no, he's sent his.  He's talking about his FA offers for days 1-5 of free agency that won't be for another few weeks.

Gooden is greedier than he looks. I'd just re-sign him and avoid the risk, but that's just my opinion.

We have a draft to do first (And bless you, Raps, for that Houston pick  8)  )

I'm no expert, but isn't signing a player whos playing out of position to a max contract also a big risk?..

Title: For Free Agency
Post by: RaptorsGM on May 04, 2005, 10:55:49 PM
Well, I'm not gonna sign Gooden now, obviously. That's what I saved the cap space for. I'm just hoping to sign a top guy and then get Gooden on day 2.

Title: For Free Agency
Post by: NetsGM on May 04, 2005, 11:01:40 PM
Yeah, gooden's gone :screwy: .  That's even worse than Mikael Pietrus of the old league wanting a max contract.

Title: For Free Agency
Post by: GoldenStateGM on May 04, 2005, 11:04:29 PM
But with so many teams with cap space this offseason (must be 6 or 7, at least), someone will overpay...

Well, this will be boring as hell, i don't do anything until the 19th, more than 2 weeks from now

Thats what I get for trading away my 1rst round picks and not making the playoffs...  Does anyone else have nothin to do in this league for the next few weeks?

Title: For Free Agency

If I make a quick exict in the playoffs I won't have anything to do.

Well, except run the league, of course.

Not true...  Last year, the playoffs were a pretty busy trading time, if I remember correctly...

very tough decision to make on my FA.
but i think redd would have demanded the same later so i decided to accept.

Yeah, it's really, really gonna suck. If I lose tonight, the next time I have anything to do with a sim - May 22nd (Sun) - 1st Day Free Agency Offers.

17 days of nothing to do. I don't even have any desire to talk trades with anyone.

Damn, Redd was one of the people I was trying to go after.

This is going to end up being a crappy FA class.  I have 13 mill, but low win rating, my only chance is Amare and that doesn't look to good

If I were in your shoes, I would have even maxed him out if he asked for it. So if that's what you paid for him, it was not a bad choice. Anything less is that much better for you...

Is there some kind of demo page to look at, for those of us without FA offers to mull over, so that we can also check out the new format?
