Do read messages you click on the top, it'll say "You have 'x' new messages" if you have new private messages or "You have no new messages" if you don't. To send, click on someone's name, then you'll see a private message icon in their profile. you'll see 3 dropdown boxes, "Roster", "Season", "History" Click the "Roster" dropdown, then "Team Rosters", then select the team you want to view.
