Title: Resign & MLE
Post by: CelticsGM on June 27, 2005, 07:47:10 PM
now the rules state this:
"A player with less than 3 bird years can be signed by his previous team at 120% of his prior salary for up to 6 years (the team may also use Exceptions, with the same rules applying).  This is beneficial because typically if you are over the salary cap you cannot give him more than the Exceptions.  "

Does this mean I can offer a multi-year contract starting at MLE exception level with up to 10% increase ?

This means that you can offer players that you had the previous season, say with the MLE, a contract starting at 5.4 million(120%), for up to 6 seasons with 10% increases.

While what CavsGM said is true (you can offer players you had previously signed with the MLE a deal of up to 6 years at 120%), what I was actually referring to with the "same rules applying" was that you can use the MLE, with the same rules for the MLE as previously stated above under the MLE section.  I'll modify it to be more clear.

If I read that for RESIGNING my players I can "use Exceptions with the same rules applying" I interpret this as an option to for example USE my MLE exception AND offer an increase (which means multiyr contract).

ok, bods explanation makes my post dispensable

You can offer them 120% of the last salary in a multi-yr deal OR
the LLE or
the MLE or
a minimum contract (each of the last three in a 1-yr deal only)

Well it's not possible for a 10 year vet to be making 650k so...

Besides the fact that it states it very clearly on the rules page, it's always 120% of his previous years salary.

Was that statement really necessary?  :)
