Select your team by making a post here.  I will then change your username to reflect the team you now have.  The sim is currently before the free agency period of the 2005 season, meaning we have to run free agency, run training camp, then we're at the 2005 season.

NOTE!
the sim doesn't have the capacity to add the charlotte bobcats.   As such, all their players have been added to the free agent pool.  That means there is a fairly decent center with no bird years waiting to be signed.  Take this into consideration when selecting what team you want to chose.

The teams will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.  In order to be fair, I will wait 24 hours before selecting my team.  Beginning saturday, I will begin recruiting players from outside locations.

I'll take the Raptors.

Man, Araujo's ratings are SH'T, but not as bas as Igoudala's. I can't believe that.

And shouldn't I have Loren Woods, the Raptors opening day starter?

shocker  :)

BTW, I think the one who did the roster file must have been a canuck.  Look at hoffa    with bosh, vince and rafer (overrated as well), that's a heckuva group.

You serious? Hoffa with a F potential? I mean, the inside shooting rating is a bit high, but dude is very solid on defense and rebounding, and those will not improve.

You're right about Vince and Rafer, but I think Bosh is pretty fair.

Post by: NetsGM on January 27, 2005, 05:10:45 PM
Keep in mind that's scouted potential.  I very much doubt that's real, I"ve never seen any rookie with an F.

But his stats right now indicate 20/10 out of the gate.

You really think so? With just a B in rebounding? Hey, I hope you're right.

And man, did Iggy ever get raped. Maybe you were right, maybe it was a Canuck that did these ratings. Due to the fact that our beer is so much stronger than yours, it would make sense. This guy was obviously hammered. :D

I was thinking something similar, but it looks like the teams with cap space are pretty sucky anyway, so it might even it out a little if one of those teams lands him.

Well, also a reason why i select the sixers is that i've played with this roster before. And all i can say is skinner is a best, double double stats and pretty good in shot blocking. Daly is also a good shotblocker, he had something like 2-3.++ shot blocks per game.

Anyway, GL to all of us. And let us not forget to help our favourite team.. THE SIXERS! hehehhe

Offer me lopsided deals, if you're really a sixers fan!

I agree with Warriors...I mean HornetsGM that it would help balance it out by him going to the teams with cap space.  Besides, since we posted the file with him in as a free agent, people may have chosen teams with cap space specifically because of him (and let's face it, there aren't many other top-tier free agents available).  Taking him out now would screw those teams.

So can we just sign him with the minimum? :D

Can he be signed for this season? Or should we wait for next year's offseason?

Cool.  Just make sure you login (so people can send you PM's and such).

bucks are a challenge, especially with Ford not on the team anymore (although at least in this sim his salary isn't on your cap anymore).  But some of your players are overrated a bit (KVH actually plays defense, and both he, mike james and joe smith all have good ratings.

Title: Team Selection
Post by: SixersGM on January 28, 2005, 11:17:55 AM
Bottom line..

Sixers have the most challenge, in the real nba and the sim league. This team is made up of supporting players, who are still serviceable, but have past their prime and has long contract. And their young guys, such as andre and Daly are underrated in this league. And is pretty much over the cap -17m.

Title: Team Selection
Post by: NetsGM on January 28, 2005, 11:19:28 AM
Yeah, you've certainly got a challenge.  You can thank Billy King for that (although Andre can certainly develop.   With his A potential, he's actually close at C+ C+ to being a solid offensive threat)

I don't really think you had a chance on signing Yao, you will rarely see a player pass up 105 mils.  What draft file are you going to use?

Title: Team Selection

We're going to be going computer generated draft file.  I don't want to try to balance in real players.

it dosent, the FBB file wont allow the creation of the charlotte bobcats, so all the bobcat players have been added to the free agent pool.

so i beleive the Nets gm is trying to get some cap space to make a run at emeka

I was going to go with the Wolves, because I love Garnett.  The team around him was junk, with some bad contracts too.

I was going to try to go for Seattle, but NJ's cap space this year gave them the edge.

the only team really left to compete right now is the Lakers.  And man...I just culdn't bring myself to do it :)

You know, of all the teams, I think the ones that are left are good ones.

Knicks have some talent.  Marbury's still very good in this game, and Crawford actually plays defense.  They are in cap hell though.

the Wiz have a ton of talent.  Arenas, Hughes, Jamsison, Kwame, Etan.

Sonics not only have good talent (shard, allen, murray), but also a TON of capspace after this yaer if they choose so.

And the Lakers have a ton of talent.  a PG away from a championship.  But then again, they are the lakers, and who wants to be them?  :)

With your indeference I should give you the Knicks.  But I'll go easy on you and give you the Sonics.

I also trimmed the memberlist, so that only the 29 teams are registered.  This way it's easy to contact the team you're looking for.

This is the first time I play.... what happens now? I check the free agents and then what?

Also, why is Okafor FA? I don't see Igoudala. And Kukoc on the 76ers?

Thanks for helping me out!

You need to sign in.

Iggy was traded, kukoc was traded.

No Bobcats, so all their players are FA.

Ok thanks! Forgot to sign in again.  So where do we add the FA's that we are interested in? And how do we trade?
BTW, sorry for all these questions!!

How do you trade? You talk with other GM's, then work something out.

You need to send the NetsGM a list of who you want to sign, and for what.

You're the General Manager of the Clippers. So you get to do all those things a real-NBA GM gets to do.

Clipps, welcome,

TRADING: You can post your "trade block" (trade block = guys you are looking to move, along with a general idea of what you want for them) in the "trade talk" thread. You can also check out other teams' trade blocks there. Check out the Raptors trade block for a good example of one.
Usually you will want to give your offers for trade by PM (private message). This ensures that others will not be able to "top" your offer. You can post your general interest on the thread though.
Once you have a deal worked out, accounting for salary difference and all that, you can post your trade in the "completed trades" thread.
Since you are new to the sim, you might want to wait to see how guys perform in the sim; it can be very different than real life.

FREE AGENCY: Don't post on the big board, send the Nets GM a PM, he is the commish. There are detailed instructions on what you can offer free agents here in league rules: http://phillyarena.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=120

Once the season starts you will be able to decide your depth chart and your team strategy. There will be more intructions on that after free agency is complete though.

question Nets, Do we have a new BlazersGM yet?

We do.

I think.

I'm waiting to hear back from him to make sure.

Any news yet on the Blazers GM?

Honestly, it would not be fair to just let Telfair go to free agency, if a GM has not take the team on yet...

Without Telfair, the Blazers would have no future at all...

Yes, there is a blazersgm, he's been notified, he just needs to register.

At this point, if he doesn't register and post his decisions in time, it's fair to let telfair go to FA.

And I don't agree about telfair.  Right now he's the Lorenzo Ellis of the league (except, unlike Ellis, he can actually score).  Randolph is still, IMO, their best player.

Telfair has actually been very effective, much more then his abilities show.

He did shoot 43.8% form the field, which is pretty good.  And he still has the A potential, and it has been shown to be a true A potential.  He has gotten better every year, although it seems to be on a downward trend.

Only 5 point guards with B- in or better, and it must be tough to defend, since most PG's likely do not have the best inside defense...

Post by: NetsGM on August 22, 2005, 03:05:10 PM
Well, I think B- inside also takes into account driving ability and ability to finish inside.  To stop that, a defending pg doesn't need good low post defense, but good drive defense.

kinda like ai.  I don't think he and telfair are posting people up.

True...  But most points, I think have a difficult matchup with that.  The only thing that makes Baron Davis effective scoring is his B inside.  Same with Telfair.  I think your standard point has a difficult time guarding that ability.  Noticed this when Hinrich had to face Luisetti vs the Kings.  I knew he would have trouble with a player with a good inside (from history) and he sure did...

Bad news for the legaue. I think the new BlazersGM is one of my relatives  :P .

But he's pretty calm guy. So don't worry.

OK....  But if w smell collusion, I am going to have Araujo sit on McGrady :)
Since his ankle has been injured he has ballooned up to 350 lbs now :)

Hah...  He never could jump anyway (evidenced by his terrible shotblocking)...  But you will never be able to get near the paint, when the Brazilian Blubber Boy is on the court ;)

Speaking of sprained ankles, I just got mine bad today.  For a few minutes I was really worried because I don't have insurance right now, so a broken ankle would be bad.  But I was able to put weight on it, thank god. But it's ballooned to look like a friggin basketball right now.

*note to self*, don't try to run down your stairs while reading again.

What was so important to read?

Title: Team Selection
Post by: NetsGM on August 22, 2005, 03:35:52 PM
Nothing important.  I don't even remember what I was reading.  Just something that caught my attention as I was heading out the door.

Kinda sad.  I played high school football for 4 years.  Never sprained an ankle.  I've been playing basketball and baseball, at various levels, for the past 18 years.  I've biked, atv's, roller hockey, ice skated.  Never a sprained ankle.

going down stairs?  That's what gets me.

Quick technique that will tell a break...  Squeeze the sides of either your knee or your lower leg with some force...  If you feel pain, then it is definitely something to check out...

Ice, elevation, and ibuprofen...  Ahh, ibuprofen...

One of my friend has this strange, but very effective and awesome method. Something with oil and pottatoes. I says the ankle is back to normal after just 1 or 2 days. Couple of others also confirmed me that.

Ok, well that's good, didn't hurt.

Of course, I should probably try it when my ankle isn't numb from ice ;)
